MTA and NYC EDC Announce Plan to Sell SoHo Parking Lot

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) today announced that the MTA intends to relinquish control of the City-owned parking lot at 19 E. Houston Street in SoHo. In return, the MTA will receive $25.825 million for its capital program and a relocation property in the Flatiron District.

MTA Service for Fourth of July Holiday

 

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will offer extra railroad service on Wednesday, July 3, to allow customers to get a head start on the Fourth of July holiday. On Thursday, July 4, subways and buses will operate on a Saturday schedule, and the Long Island Rail Road, Metro-North Railroad and Staten Island Railway will operate on a Sunday schedule. GOVERNOR CUOMO ANNOUNCES CONFIRMATION OF TOM PRENDERGAST TO SERVE AS MTA CHAIRMAN AND CEO
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the confirmation of Thomas F. Prendergast to serve as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) by the New York State Senate. Mr. Prendergast served for more than three years as president of MTA New York City Transit, which runs the subway and bus system in New York City, and for six years as the President of the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR). He has served as the MTA Interim Executive Director since January 1, 2013. He replaces Joseph Lhota.

MTA Awards Final Contract to Build Phase 1 of the Second Avenue Subway

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced that it has awarded a contract for the station finishes, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, ancillary buildings and entrances for the 86th Street Station of the Second Avenue Subway. The contract, valued at $208,376,000 was awarded to the 86th Street Constructors Joint Venture, a joint venture of Schiavone Construction Co. LLC and John P. Picone, Incorporated. This is the tenth and final contract to be awarded for Phase 1.

MTA Takes Home Three Inaugural APTA Rail Safety & Security Awards

Two MTA agencies, MTA New York City Transit and MTA Long Island Rail Road, walked away last week with three prestigious awards from the American Public Transportation Association (APTA).  NYC transit was cited for its innovative, new FASTRACK maintenance program as well as for the work of its EAGLE TEAM to prevent subway cars falling victim to graffiti vandals.  The employees of the Maintenance of Equipment Department of MTA Long Island Rail Road were also awarded the first Rail Safety & Security Excellence Award by APTA at the group’s annual convention in Philadelphia.

Memorial Day 2013: MTA Service Plans and Getaways

 

Memorial Day is on Monday, May 27, which means the MTA will add extra trains on Friday, May 24, to help New Yorkers get an early start on the long three-day weekend. All MTA services will operate on Sunday schedules on Memorial Day.  Details are below.
