GOVERNOR CUOMO ANNOUNCES WIRELESS SERVICE HAS ARRIVED AT 30 ADDITIONAL UNDERGROUND SUBWAY STATIONS

 

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced today that 30 additional subway stations now have wireless voice and data communication capability allowing New York City subway riders to make and receive cell phone calls, send and receive texts and e-mail and access Wi-Fi underground. Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) officials were joined by executives from Transit Wireless, AT&T, T-Mobile USA and Boingo Wireless to demonstrate the new capability at the City’s busiest station, Times Square.

1 Service to South Ferry Resumed in Time for the Morning Rush

MTA New York City Transit’s old South Ferry loop station reopened this morning at 5 a.m. in time for the first rush of commuters streaming off the Staten Island Ferry. The station had been out of service since the new South Ferry terminal station opened in 2009, but was re-commissioned after the new station was destroyed by Superstorm Sandy.

A series of panoramic time-lapse views of the famous seaside amusement district at Coney Island are gracing the walls of the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center subway complex through an art installation posted today by MTA Arts for Transit and Urban Design. The photographs are by Jeff Chien-Hsing Liao, who focuses on the diversity and vistas found in each of New York City’s boroughs.

MTA Service Update for Spring Religious Holidays

The New York City Subway and Staten Island Railway will operate on regular weekday schedules throughout Passover, which starts on Monday, March 25, and on Good Friday, March 29. A normal Sunday schedule will be in effect on Easter Sunday, March 31. However, there will be some adjustments to MTA services as noted below.

New York City Buses

On Good Friday, March 29, there will be no limited-stop bus service in Staten Island on the S81, S84, S86, S90, S91, S92, S94, S96 and S98 bus routes.
