MTA Makes MetroCard Refills Easier

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced today that MetroCards can now be refilled with a combination of both unlimited-ride time and pay-per-ride dollar values. This means customers can always refill their existing MetroCards instead of having to buy new ones.

Customers who hold unlimited-ride MetroCards, such as a 7-day, or 30-day or 7-Day Express Bus Plus pass, can now refill them by adding a dollar value, which will be used to pay per ride once their unlimited time expires.

MTA Awards Contract to Build Second Avenue Subway Station Finishes at 72nd Street

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced it has awarded a contract for the station finishes, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, ancillary buildings and entrances for the future Second Avenue Subway 72nd Street Station.

The contract, valued at $258,353,000, was awarded to Judlau Contracting Inc. and is the ninth of ten contracts to be awarded for Phase 1. The final contract for Phase 1 of the Second Avenue Subway will be the 86th Street Station Systems and Finishes, which is scheduled for a bid opening in mid-March.

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) trains and buses will operate on special schedules in observance of Presidents' Day on Monday.

MTA Service Advisory: Huge Manhattan Water Main Break Disrupts Broadway Line

Transit workers descended on the Broadway Line's 23rd Street Station to clean up the mess left by a massive water main break that occurred late this morning. The pipe burst shortly before 10:45 a.m., sending a torrent of water onto the platforms and tracks as 750 gallons of water a minute escaped the broken main. Before DEP workers managed to shut off the flow, all four tracks and third rails were submerged in water.
