Governor Cuomo Announces Travel Ban Effective at 2:30 PM Today

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced a travel ban on all local and state roads in New York City, Long Island, and the Port Authority’s trans-Hudson crossings, effective at 2:30 p.m. today. Additionally, the MTA will begin suspending service at 4:00 p.m. on the LIRR, Metro-North Railroad, Staten Island Railway, and above-ground subway lines in New York City. All bus services in New York City remain suspended until further notice.

Governor Cuomo Announces Downstate Travel Ban to Cease at 7AM Sunday

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo this evening held a storm briefing to discuss the winter storm and the reopening of roadways and public transportation in the downstate region. The existing travel ban for all state and local roads in New York City, the Long Island Expressway and Northern State Parkway, and the Port Authority’s trans-Hudson crossings will be lifted at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow, Sunday, January 24. The ban remains in effect until that time and only authorized emergency vehicles, hazard vehicles and critical healthcare personnel will be permitted.

Governor Cuomo Issues Update on MTA Service Suspensions

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo this morning issued an update on service suspensions for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The MTA will restore bus, subway and regional railroad service as conditions warrant throughout the day Sunday. Customers should check www.mta.info for service status updates before beginning their journeys, since conditions remain subject to change. The travel ban has been officially lifted as of 7 a.m. this morning, and the Port Authority’s bridges and tunnels opened at that time without incident.

MTA Restores Almost All Service for Monday Morning Rush

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will operate almost all mass transit services in time for the Monday morning rush hour, after much of the MTA network was suspended during this weekend’s blizzard. This includes restoring service for nearly 80 percent of MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) customers, as well as restoring service on the Metro-North Railroad and outdoor subway lines in New York City.

MTA Prepares for First Winter Storm of the Year

With a wintry blast that may dump as much as 12 inches of snow in parts of the metropolitan region, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority is hard at work to ensure safe, reliable service this weekend. MTA New York City Transit, Metro-North Railroad, Long Island Rail Road, and MTA Bridges and Tunnels are once again preparing. Personnel will be ready to drop salt and clear platforms and stairs of snow but customers are urged to use extreme caution while navigating the system, especially on outdoor platforms and stairs.

Governor Cuomo Announces Adoption of Regulation Cracking Down on Repeat Toll Violators

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the adoption of a regulation to take action against motorists who persistently evade paying tolls and fees on New York's roadways. The regulation allows the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles to suspend the registration of motorists who fail to pay five tolls, fees, and other charges resulting from violations on different days, within a period of 18 months, and ignore toll authorities' repeated notices.
