Statement by MTA Chairman and CEO Patrick J. Foye on Investigation Into Dramatically Increased Overtime Payments

The recent reports on excessive overtime payments throughout our system are extremely concerning.  Some overtime is to be expected at any public transit agency, in order to keep up with critical repairs and maintenance, especially at a time of extraordinary work being done around the system. But the accumulation of so many hours of overtime raises serious questions, including potential safety issues such as exhaustion.

MTA Announces St. Patrick’s Day Service Changes

With New York City’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade scheduled for Saturday, March 16, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) reminds customers that alcohol will be banned from the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad. The LIRR and Metro-North will offer extra trains to help customers get to the parade and subway and bus service changes will be in place for the day. Details follow.

Statement from Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Acting Chair Fernando Ferrer

“I strongly endorse this proposal from Governor Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio that addresses the fundamental challenges the MTA faces – a need for organization-wide reform, cost cutting, additional revenues, and increased efficiency.  This proposal is a holistic cure for much of what ails the MTA, and I hope to see it enacted swiftly for the benefit of our 8.5 million daily customers.
