MTA Provides Service Update for Spring Religious Holidays

On Easter Sunday, April 5, all MTA services plan to operate on a normal Sunday schedule. For this Friday, April 3, which is Good Friday and the first night of Passover, the New York City Subway and Staten Island Railway will operate on regular schedules. However, there will be some adjustments to MTA services as noted below.

New York City Buses

On Friday, April 3, Staten Island buses will operate on a reduced weekday schedule. There will be no limited-stop bus service in Staten Island on the S81, S84, S86, S90, S91, S92, S94, S96 and S98 bus routes.

Second Avenue Subway Community Information Center Welcomes 10,000th Visitor

MTA Capital Construction welcomed its 10,000th visitor to the Second Avenue Subway Community information Center (CIC) on April 1st. Alisa Becker, who lives in the 96th Street station area was greeted by MTA Capital Construction President Michael Horodniceanu as she walked in the door. Horodniceanu presented her with a plaque containing a piece of Manhattan Schist attached. The rock was excavated from below Second Avenue where the tunnels and caverns were excavated to construct the subway. She was also guaranteed a spot on a future community tour of the cavern.

Reminder: Fares and Tolls Increase This Sunday, March 22

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is reminding the public that previously announced fare and toll increases will go into effect on Sunday. Details of the new fare and toll rates and ways to save are available at MTA.info along with a new MetroCard bonus calculator.

An app that notifies riders about train arrival times with voice alerts as they approach the stations they most frequent and an app that allows riders to simply point their smartphone towards a bus stop to see departure times are the Grand Prize winners in this year’s App Quest 3.0.

MTA Railroads to Provide Special Service on St. Patrick’s Day

The Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad will operate extra trains to help those traveling to New York City for the 254th St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Tuesday, March 17.

Customers are advised not to bring alcoholic beverages, open or closed, on trains, platforms and stations through 5 a.m. on March 18. Alcoholic beverages will be confiscated by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Police. Bar carts at Grand Central and Penn Station will not operate this day.

MTA Service on Presidents’ Day Holiday

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) trains and buses will operate on special schedules in observance of Presidents’ Day on Monday.

New York City Subways and Buses

On Presidents’ Day, Monday, February 16, New York City subways and buses will operate on a Saturday schedule with some planned subway service changes:

Limited-Edition MetroCards Herald 2015 NBA All-Star Game in New York

The National Basketball Association is celebrating the All-Star Game’s return to New York with a new branded MetroCard touting the city’s two home basketball teams, the New York Knicks and the Brooklyn Nets. The city last hosted the NBA All-Star Game in 1998.

The NBA has purchased a double-sided ad run of 600,000 MetroCards for distribution ahead of the 64th annual All-Star Game weekend on February 13 to 15. Game-related events will take place at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, Barclays Center in Brooklyn, as well as other locations throughout the city.

MTA Announces Schedules for 26 Extra LIRR and Metro-North Departures This Afternoon; Service Expected to End at 11 p.m.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced schedule details for 26 extra trains that are being added to LIRR and Metro-North schedules this afternoon. The trains are departing from Penn Station and Grand Central Terminal, and are intended to help those commuters who want to leave work early ahead of the forecast major winter storm. In addition, 14 Metro-North trains that would normally depart Grand Central after 5 p.m. will be canceled or combined with other trains as noted below. Both railroads expect to suspend service as of 11 p.m.
