Governor Cuomo Announces On-Time Opening of Second Avenue Subway

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the schedule for the on-time opening of the new Second Avenue Subway. Keeping his promise to modernize the MTA and open the subway line on time, the inaugural ride will take place on December 31st and revenue service will begin at noon on January 1 and start at 6 a.m. each day for the rest of the first week.

Governor Cuomo Announces MTA eTix Milestone with Over $47 Million in Ticket Sales

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced strong early growth and use of the MTA eTix mobile ticketing app with impressive download, sales, and usage data. Since the app launched system-wide in August, more than 280,000 new MTA eTix accounts have been created by Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road customers and cumulative sales through the app have surpassed $47 million.

LIRR and Metro-North to Impose Alcohol Ban for 2016 SantaCon Event

To maintain orderly travel and safe station and terminal operations during this weekend’s SantaCon event, alcohol will not be permitted on MTA Long Island Rail Road and MTA Metro-North Railroad trains and in stations from noon on Saturday, December 10, through noon on Sunday, December 11. The timeframe overlaps with the Long Island Rail Road’s usual ban on alcohol between midnight and 5 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.

MTA Announces Service Plans for Four-Day Thanksgiving Weekend
Trains and buses operated by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will operate on special schedules on Wednesday, November 23, through Sunday, November 27, to accommodate the unique travel demands of Thanksgiving weekend. During the same time period, MTA Bridges and Tunnels will suspend maintenance at its nine crossings to facilitate increased travel.

Governor Cuomo Announces Major Progress in MTA Subway Station Enhancement Initiative

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced two major milestones in the initiative to create new and improved subway stations throughout the New York metropolitan area as a part of his plan to reimagine the MTA for the 21st century. The MTA will award a contract this month for the first three stations, all located on the R Subway line in Brooklyn, and the Authority will issue a Request for Proposals this week for the second group of stations.

MTA Announces Fare and Toll Proposals

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today unveiled two options for needed increase to fares and tolls over the next two years by less than 4 percent – or an average of 2 percent annually, consistent with the financial forecast made in July. The MTA’s continued discipline in keeping costs down has resulted in the lowest increase since 2009, when the MTA committed to a biennial schedule to keep adjustments as small and predictable as possible.

Governor Cuomo Announces New Payment Options for MTA eTix

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the addition of Apple Pay and Masterpass digital wallet technology to MTA eTix, the mobile ticketing app that enables Metro-North Railroad and Long Island Rail Road customers to purchase their tickets anywhere, anytime. Starting tomorrow morning, customers of these services will be able to use both services to purchase one way, round trip, ten trip, weekly, CityTickets -- as well and monthly passes —through MTA eTix.

Governor Cuomo Unveils New Pennsylvania Station-Farley Complex Including MTA Will Fully Redesign Both LIRR-Connected Subway Stations – the A,C,E and 1,2,3 at 34th Street

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today unveiled sweeping plans for the complete transformation of the historic James A. Farley Post Office into a world-class transportation hub. At the Association for a Better New York, the Governor announced the selection of a developer-builder team including three companies, Related Companies, Vornado Realty LP, and Skanska AB to redevelop the Farley Building, creating a new 255,000 square foot Train Hall to house passenger facilities for the Long Island Rail Road and Amtrak.
