Governor Cuomo Announces New Efforts in New York State to Help Fight Terrorism

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced two new efforts to enhance the New York State's ability to fight terrorism. The new "See Something, Send Something" campaign encourages New Yorkers to report suspicious activity through a simple mobile app on their smart phone. The app is available for download here. Additionally, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will hire 46 more Police Officers to increase counterterrorism capabilities at Grand Central Terminal, Penn Station and throughout the Metro-North Railroad, Long Island Rail Road and Staten Island Railway systems.

MTA Announces Service Plans for Four-Day Thanksgiving Weekend

Trains and buses operated by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will operate on special schedules on Wednesday, November 25, through Sunday, November 29, to accommodate the unique travel demands of Thanksgiving weekend. During the same time period, MTA Bridges and Tunnels will suspend maintenance at its nine crossings to facilitate increased travel.

MTA Presents Final Proposed Budget for 2016

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today presented its 2016 Final Proposed Budget and its 2016-19 Financial Plan, in which a relentless emphasis on cutting costs will allow the MTA to invest $242 million in new service, maintenance and operations initiatives over the next four years, while limiting fare and toll increases to the rate of inflation.

“Today I met with federal, state and city elected officials to discuss ways to advance and accelerate bringing the Second Avenue Subway to 125th Street. MTA Officials Break Floor of Grand Central Terminal, Opening the Way for Stairways and Escalators To Long Island Rail Road Concourse

MTA officials began the process of breaking through the floor of Grand Central Terminal today, marking the start of construction on one of several access points that will connect Grand Central Terminal to a huge new concourse for Long Island Rail Road passengers being built below. The concourse being built is part of the East Side Access construction project, which will bring Long Island Rail Road trains into Grand Central.

The new MTA Capital Program includes $535 million over the next four years for design, planning, environmental review, property acquisition, utility relocation and construction preparations to bring the Second Avenue Subway to East Harlem. This reflects the work we can realistically accomplish in the next four years given the regulatory and engineering constraints on heavy construction in a densely populated section of Manhattan.

Former MTA Chairman E. Virgil Conway Dies at 85

E. Virgil Conway, who served as both Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) chairman and as a member of the MTA Board, died Wednesday in Southampton, New York. He was 85.

After finding success as both an attorney and a banker, Virgil began his tenure with the MTA Board as our Westchester representative. In 1995, he was asked by then-Governor George E. Pataki to take on the responsibility of chairman. He continued in that role until March 2001, serving as the seventh chairman of the MTA.
