Nine Start-Ups Selected to Bring Cutting-Edge Technology to MTA and Other New York Area Transportation Agencies

The Partnership for New York City’s Transit Tech Lab, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and four other transportation agencies announced today that nine start-up companies have been selected to pilot cutting-edge technologies that could improve accessibility, revenue generation, and traffic congestion for millions of daily travelers in the New York metropolitan area. The agencies joining the MTA in this initiative are the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, New York City Department of Transportation, NJ TRANSIT and Amtrak.

MTA and Legislators Announce Railroad Discount Pilot for Reduced Fares for LIRR and Metro-North Travel Within New York City

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and members of the New York State Legislature today announced that starting this spring, full-price fares for most travel within the City of New York on MTA Metro-North Railroad and MTA Long Island Rail Road will be reduced thanks to funding from the Outer Borough Transportation Account.

MTA Appoints Sarah Feinberg as Interim President of New York City Transit

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has named MTA Transit Committee Chair and former Federal Railroad Administrator Sarah E. Feinberg as interim president of New York City Transit. As interim president, Feinberg will oversee the 48,000 person workforce of the NYCT, as well as operations for New York City subways, buses, paratransit services, and the Staten Island Railway.

MTA Announces Members of Major Construction Review Unit

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced the first slate of members of the MTA’s Major Construction Review Unit (MCRU). The newly appointed review panel includes a diverse cross-section of experts and industry leaders in design, construction, technology, engineering, project management, urban planning and academia. The MCRU, mandated by the New York State Legislature in 2019, will provide input on large-scale projects and signal upgrades in the MTA’s historic 2020-2024 Capital Plan, bringing fresh eyes and knowledge of best industry practices to improve outcomes.

Five Canine Officers Complete MTA PD Anti-Terrorism Training Course

Five canine and police officer teams graduated from MTA Police Department explosives detection and anti-terrorism training this morning at a touching ceremony at Grand Central Terminal. The canines are now official officers of the MTA PD and have small police shields affixed to their collars.
