Governor Cuomo Announces Stormproofing and Energy Upgrades to MTA's Primary Office Tower

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is making its energy-efficient office building at 2 Broadway in Lower Manhattan more resilient against extreme storms. The changes will better adapt the building to a changing climate as the MTA consolidates its headquarters personnel there next year. At the same time, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has bestowed its Energy Star certification on the building to recognize that MTA’s upgrades there are helping reduce emissions of greenhouse gases that are causing climate change.

MTA Police, Nassau DA Rice & Nassau Police Announce Arrests in Investigation of LIRR Ticket Vending Machine Scam

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Department, Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice, Queens District Attorney’s Office and Nassau County Police Department Crimes Against Property (CAP) Squad today announced the arrests of four people in connection with a scam discovered two weeks ago that used hidden cameras and bank card “skimmers” to target MTA Long Island Rail Road customers using ticket vending machines (TVMs) at locations in Nassau and Queens counties.

Governor Cuomo and MTA Chairman Prendergast Detail Efforts to Harden and Protect New York's Transit Infrastructure After Sandy

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and MTA Chairman and CEO Thomas F. Governor Cuomo Announces MTA Will Expand Participation in Taste NY

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced today that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will expand its participation in the Taste NY initiative by adding a new Taste NY store in Grand Central Terminal specifically offering food and beverages produced in New York. MTA Names Blue Ribbon Panel To Study Rail Safety

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced that it has created a Blue Ribbon Panel of six distinguished railroad and transportation experts to examine the circumstances behind recent safety-related incidents at MTA Metro-North Railroad, MTA Long Island Rail Road and MTA New York City Transit. The experts will study the causes behind those incidents, examine the agencies’ maintenance and inspection programs, and ensure they promote a culture of safety within the MTA.

Governor Cuomo Announces MTA Increases MWBE Underwriters

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Board has increased the number and percentage of minority- and women-owned firms that will participate in the issuance of MTA bonds, as the Board has approved a large group of firms that will underwrite the bonds used to finance the MTA capital program. The groups approved by the Board include 10 Senior Managers and 22 Co-Manager positions. In addition, the Board approved a large and diverse Selling Group of 18 firms.

Governor Cuomo Announces $1.8 Billion Award to Build 676 New LIRR and Metro-North Rail Cars

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that the Board of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has approved a contract with Kawasaki Rail Car, Inc. for up to $1.83 billion to design and build the next generation of rail cars for the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad. The MTA expects up to 676 cars will be assembled at Kawasaki’s plant in Yonkers and anticipates up to 1,500 people will be employed in New York State.
