MTA Staten Island Railway (SIR) to Expand Express Service Morning Rush Hour

MTA New York City Transit today announced the expansion of Staten Island Railway's (SIR) morning rush hour express train service. The expansion is in response to a surge in SIR ridership, which has seen a 10.2 percent increase in ridership during the 3rd Quarter of this year. By comparison, ridership on heavy rail systems nationally grew by only four percent.

MTA NYC Transit Releases Final Report Of Joint Track Safety Task Force

After an extensive six-month effort during which MTA New York City Transit worked closely with Transport Workers Union Local 100 to come up with ways of helping to ensure the safety of employees who labor along the system's more than 800 miles of subway track, the Joint Track Safety Task Force has released its final report. The report identifies several areas where safety can be improved and makes recommendations to reduce the hazards of working along the right of way.

From 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, November 24 and Sunday, November 25, downtown 1 trains skip 238th, 231st, and 225th Streets due to rail work south of 238th Street.

MTA New York City Transit Observes Elevator and Escalator Safety Week

National Elevator Escalator Safety Awareness Week is observed each year during the second full week of November. The event is aimed at drawing attention to the safe, responsible use of elevators, escalators and moving walkways. MTA New York City Transit representatives are at designated, high-traffic stations all this week, alerting customers to the safety issues associated with the use of the system's 158 elevators, 169 escalators and two moving walkways.

Rider Report Card Results Released For 23 Lines And 42nd Street S Shuttle

The 2 line connects the Wakefield section of the Bronx and Flatbush, Brooklyn. The 3 line runs between 148th Street in Harlem and New Lots Avenue in the East New York section of Brooklyn. The 42nd Street S shuttle connects Times Square-42nd Street and Grand Central-42nd Street. Riders who took part in MTA New York City Transit's Rider Report Card survey issued an overall grade of C for the 2, C- for the 3 and B- for the 42nd Street S shuttle.

Staten Island Railway To Expand Express Service For Evening And Morning Rush Hour

In response to record ridership growth on the Staten Island Railway (SIR), and as part of MTA NYC Transit's commitment to the Mayor's Staten Island Transportation Task Force, NYC Transit today announced the expansion of SIR's rush hour express train service on November 14th. The expansion will provide additional service to commuters who rely on SIR express and local service to and from the Staten Island Ferry while also providing an alternative to construction-related delays on area highways.

M Train Incident at Chambers Street

At approximately 10:55 a.m., a southbound M train approaching the relay (turn around) position struck the bumper block outside of the Chambers Street station. The train, which runs between Lower Manhattan and Middle Village, Queens, was in between runs and had discharged all customers at Chambers Street. Due to the collision, the train operator was briefly trapped in the cab of the first car. He was subsequently removed to St. Vincent's Hospital. The train did not derail; however, there is significant damage to the first two cars and somewhat lighter damage to another four.
