Sustainable Track Infrastructure Comes to Staten Island Railway

As Earth Day approaches and as part of recommendations from a blue-ribbon commission tasked with reducing the impact of public transit on the environment, MTA New York City Transit has installed approximately 6,500 sustainable composite ties in a major Staten Island Railway (SIR) track renewal project to repair significant damage caused by Superstorm Sandy.

MTA to Hold Public Meetings on Reconstruction of L Line’s Canarsie Tunnel

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced the first of two public meetings to discuss future reconstruction work on the Canarsie Tunnel, which carries the L Subway train under the East River between Brooklyn and Manhattan.

The first meeting will be held on Thursday, May 5 at 6 p.m. at the Marcy Avenue Armory at 355 Marcy Avenue in Brooklyn. A Manhattan-based public meeting to be held later in May will be announced soon.

Substantial Increases to Service Planned for Two Subway Lines

MTA New York City Transit plans to increase scheduled service on two subway lines in fall 2016, with major additions proposed for the entire length of the 2 Subway line reflecting substantial ridership growth during weekends. The increased service on the 2 Subway line includes a total of 31 extra round trips on Saturdays and 18 additional round trips on Sundays.

ADVISORY: MTA Bus Company Renames Eight Express Routes Serving Queens and Manhattan

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Bus Company is renaming eight express bus routes that serve Queens and midtown Manhattan, where they travel along two corridors, 6th Avenue and 3rd Avenue. The change will provide more clearly identifiable route numbering and minimize customer confusion. The new route numbers also allow the route branches to be easily identified at-a-glance by customers waiting at the bus stops as the buses approach.

FASTRACK Returns to the 23 in Upper Manhattan and the Bronx

On Monday, April 11, MTA New York City Transit’s FASTRACK program returns to the 2 Subway3 Subway lines in Harlem and the Bronx for two consecutive weeks. Beginning Monday, April 11, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., for four consecutive weeknights, and from Monday, April 25, to early morning Friday, April 29, 2 Subway trains are suspended between 3 Av-149 St and 96 St.

Q2, Q110 Bus Route Changes for 2016 Horse Racing Season

MTA New York City Transit and MTA Bus announce that the Q2 and Q110 bus routes will once again directly serve Belmont Park for the 2016 horse racing season. Effective Friday, April 29, until Sunday, July 17, 2016, Q2 and Q110 buses will discharge, layover, and pick-up customers in the designated stops at Belmont Park near the escalators to the LIRR/Racetrack overpass, and will use the stops as indicated in the attached map.
