MTA New York City Transit to Increase Fall 2014 Service on LM Lines Based on Ridership Growth

MTA New York City Transit plans to increase service this fall to the L Subway Line IconM Subway Line Icon lines that serve thousands of customers in growing neighborhoods throughout Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan. NYC Transit is adding service to these lines based on analysis of schedules and increased ridership demand.

New Artwork Installed in Times Square Lightbox
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Arts for Transit & Urban Design announced today the installation of a photographic artwork, “New York City, after George Bellows,” by artist Vik Muniz in its outdoor Times Square lightbox. Muniz used torn strips of magazine pages to remake George Bellows' famous 1911 painting of Times Square and then photographed the resulting collage. This post-modern take on Bellows’ “New York” melds subject with a technique appropriate for a portrayal of the teeming streets of the city.

MTA Extends Bus and Staten Island Railway Service
MTA New York City Transit is increasing service on buses and the Staten Island Railway (SIR) to meet ridership demand as a result of service enhancements on the Staten Island Ferry.  Service on NYC Transit buses and SIR is timed to meet each ferry arrival and departure whenever possible.

Castle Hill Av and Middletown Rd 6 Line Station Renewals Completed
NYC Transit President Carmen Bianco, joined by MTA Vice Chairman Fernando Ferrer, MTA officials and community leaders, presided over a ribbon-cutting ceremony today to celebrate the completion of a seven month renewal project at the 94 year-old Castle Hill Av and Middletown Rd 6 Subway Line Icon line stations in the Bronx.
