Project Update
In the spring of 2007, a comprehensive project reassessment was done to assure that the SBS project was in step with agency goals and objectives. Based on this reassessment, the Merrick Blvd corridor was deferred and two new Bus Priority corridors were introduced—34th Street and Fifth Avenue-Madison Avenue. This decision was to assure that there was an immediate, high-visibility impact from the BRT program and that the program supported the Mayor’s 2030 plan. The initial demonstration corridors are:
The Bronx: Fordham Road - Pelham Parkway Select Bus Service (Bx12 Bus Route) Coming in Summer 2008
Manhattan: 1st / 2nd Avenues Select Bus Service (M15 Bus Route)
Manhattan: 34th Street Bus Priority (M34 and M16 Bus Route)
Manhattan: 5th/Madison Avenues Bus Priority (M1, M2, M3, M4, M5 & Q32 Bus Routes)
Staten Island: Hylan Boulevard Select Bus Service (S79 Bus Route)
Brooklyn: Nostrand Avenue Select Bus Service (B44 Bus Route)
