This Sunday, May 5, New York City will host the TD Five Boro Bike Tour, attracting 32,000 cyclists from around the region and beyond. Its sister event, Bike Expo New York, is held on Saturday, May 4, in Lower Manhattan. You can avoid street closures, traffic tie-ups and parking fees by riding mass transit.

The LIRR will offer plenty of service to get you to the start of the tour, and many stations offer free and unrestricted parking on Sundays. And the LIRR will allow bicyclists to board trains without a bicycle permit, and the usual restriction on the number of bicycles permitted on a train will be suspended.

To get to either event, ride the LIRR to Penn Station or Atlantic Terminal, Brooklyn, for a quick bike ride or subway ride.  If you choose to use the subway, there will be some service changes related to weekend track work. From Penn Station, catch the E Subway Line Icon to World Trade Center or the 1 Subway Line Icon, 2 Subway Line Icon or 3 Subway Line Icon to Chambers St. From Atlantic Terminal, Brooklyn, catch the Manhattan-bound N Subway Line Icon, Q Subway Line Icon or R Subway Line Icon to City Hall, the 2 Subway Line Icon or 3 Subway Line Icon to Chambers St or the 4 Subway Line Icon to Bowling Green.
