Take LIRR to to Belmont Park Thoroughbred Racing
April 26th, 2013
Once again, MTA Long Island Rail Road is partnering with the New York Racing Association to provide train service to and from Belmont Park for the entire racing season.
The LIRR’s “Belmont Special” runs twice each morning from Penn Station and twice at the end of the racing day from Belmont Park featuring a ticket package that entitles customers to a $1 discount off the regular $3 grandstand admission.
Belmont’s spring-summer season runs through July 14 and includes the 145th running of the Belmont Stakes; the oldest and longest leg of thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown, on Saturday, June 8. The LIRR will provide extra train service for the Belmont Stakes.
The LIRR-NYRA partnership calls for the racing agency to subsidize the cost of operating the LIRR Belmont service so that it is a break-even proposition for the Railroad.
With world-class thoroughbred racing and a host of new activities and old favorites planned for the spring and summer, Belmont Park is the place to be.
Post time is 1:05 PM on most racing days (the track is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays) with the exception of Belmont Stakes Day when racing starts at 11:35 AM and five consecutive Fridays - June 14, June 21, June 28, July 5 and July 10, when the first race is scheduled for 3 PM.
Belmont customers should pick up the special Belmont Park Spring Meet Timetable at LIRR ticket offices for train departure times and ticket information. The same information can also be found on the MTA website at www.mta.info/lirr. To avoid higher on-board fares and save time, customers should purchase round-trip tickets in advance. Train tickets are not sold at Belmont Station.
