Hero Police Officers Receive Awards

Two NYPD officers were honored with heroism awards at this week’s NYC Transit Committee meeting.

MTA Vice Chairman Fernando Ferrer joined NYC Transit President Carmen Bianco and Darryl Irick, Senior Vice President of Buses, President MTA Bus Company, to present Officers James Li and Randy Chow with awards to acknowledge the valiant efforts of both of whom were recently involved in a serious incident as they were doing what they were trained to do – protect and serve.  On February 26 Officers Li and Chow attempted to stop and question two individuals they witnessed trying to enter the rear door of a B46 bus without paying their fares.  The perpetrators began to flee and one turned and shot at both Officers.  Officer Chow was not hit but Officer Li was shot four times.  Thankfully, his injuries, while serious were not life threatening.

The awards read, “In recognition of your extraordinary bravery and unselfish actions in the face of extreme danger while confronting an armed fare beater on the B46 bus at Utica Ave & Empire Blvd on February 26, 2014.”
