Nominations Open for Hometown Heroes in Transit
Commuters who would like to give thanks to a bus or subway worker who has gone above and beyond -- now is your chance.
For the second year, MTA New York City Transit is teaming up with the New York Daily News to honor New York’s Hometown Heroes in Transit. Everyone is invited to nominate a bus or subway employee who has performed an extraordinary deed that benefiitted riders, co-workers or New York City.
Sponsored by the New York Daily News, the contest gives the public and NYC Transit employees a means of publicly recognizing the sacrifice and sense of duty of front-line transit workers. While the media often covers acts of heroism demonstrated by Transit workers, we are also looking for those stories that didn’t make the news.
“It’s terrific that New York’s Hometown Paper has established this venue for recognizing the dedication of our employees to our customers. co-workers and the City. We are happy to join the Daily News in this effort,” said NYC Transit President Carmen Bianco.
“The Daily News is both proud and thrilled to honor our city’s transit workers,” Daily News Editor-in-Chief Colin Myler said. “Not only do they provide a critically important service, they often do not hesitate to help riders and co-workers even at great risk to their personal safety.”
Submitting a Hometown Hero for nomination is easy. Give a brief description of why the NYC Transit worker you are nominating deserves a reward. Include the names, dates and location of the exceptional deed as well as your name and contact information.
