Rockaway and Broad Channel residents enrolled in the Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge toll rebate program are reminded that changes will go into effect just after midnight on Friday, July 23rd.

Under the modified program, residents within the six valid zip codes in the Rockaway/Broad Channel districts will be charged $1.13 per trip for the first two trips made across the Cross Bay Bridge within a 24-hour period that will run from 12:01 AM to midnight. Trips will be charged on each E-ZPass tag; account holders can have up to four E-ZPass tags per account. All subsequent trips taken in the same day on the same E-ZPass tag will be rebated on the account.

The MTA Board approved this service change in March in order to help the MTA close a nearly $800 million budget deficit. After a series of public hearings in March, the Board voted to modify the Rockaway resident toll rebate program, rather than eliminate it completely.

Rockaway residents should make sure that they have enough funds in their account to cover toll charges. To learn more about replenishment methods, customers can call 1-800-333-8655 or go to www.ezpassny.com.

In order to participate in the program, vehicles must be registered to a valid resident address in the following zip codes: 11691, 11692, 11693, 11694, 11695, and 11697. Residents in the program pay $1.13 per trip as compared to $2.75 for cash customers and $1.71 for non-resident E-ZPass customers. In addition, Rockaway residents may also purchase tokens, which cost $1.54 per trip.

The rebate plan is only valid at the Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge for passenger vehicles. It does not apply to commercial trucks, motorcycles, taxis, buses or limousines.
