If you have yet to visit historic Governors Island...well, you should.
The latest in a series throughout the summer highlighting how you can use your MetroCard to enjoy all that New York has to offer brings us to this iconic island 800 yards from Lower Manhattan. Swipe your MetroCard and take the No. 1 train to South Ferry, the No. 4/5 to Bowling Green, the R train to Whitehall Street or the M5, M15, SBS M15, or M20 bus, and then take the Governors Island Ferry from the Battery Maritime Building, Slip 7.
A free ferry also sails from Brooklyn Bridge Park, Pier 6 off Atlantic Avenue and Columbia Street, on Saturdays, Sundays and holiday Mondays. Take the No. 2, 3, 4, or 5 train to Borough Hall, the A, C, or F train to Jay Street/MetroTech, the R train to Court Street or the B61, B63 bus.
