LIRR Resumes Normal Service Monday
The LIRR will be operating regular AM and PM rush hour service starting Monday, March 25. All track repair work and track testing has been completed on the LIRR's Main Line track that was damaged in the derailment last Monday evening of a non-passenger train west of Jamaica.
LIRR crews have worked around the clock since the derailment to re-rail the four cars that derailed and repair damage to approximately 3/4-mile of track. More than 1,540 damaged concrete ties have been replaced along with running rail. Some 3,700 feet of third rail, which provides the electricity needed to run most LIRR trains, also is being installed or repaired.
The cause of the derailment remains under investigation by a team of safety experts. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused during your travels on the LIRR and we appreciate your patience while we corrected the situation.
