25 Performers and Groups Chosen for MTA’s Music Under New York

MUNY Auditions
Twenty-five individuals and groups have been accepted into the Music Under New York (MUNY) program after performing at the program’s 26th Annual Auditions held on May 13 in Grand Central Terminal.
During the auditions, approximately 70 acts performed live for a panel of judges of musicians, music professionals and transit representatives to become part of the MUNY program. The annual Auditions, which are open to the public, showcased a diverse array of performers.  Among the acts seen and heard were musicians playing the Appalachian dulcimer, kora, Classical Indian sitar, Baroque harpsichord, Brazilian guitar, steel drums, lute and viola. Other acts included pianists from classical to blues, singers from Greek Rebitika to Irish folk, and a psychedelic harp among others. As a result of the judges’ scores, the following acts were selected for the MUNY program:

  • Catahoul Cajun Band … “Northern fried Cajun”
  • Charly & Margaux … Classical viola and violin duo
  • John Colianni Quartet … Jazz combo
  • Leanne Darling … Solo viola and lute
  • Yacouba Diabate … Burkina Faso kora player
  • José Fernando … Latin singer and dancer
  • Eve Fingal … Alternative folk
  • Foreign Correspondents … Clarinet quartet
  • Natasha Gilev … Spanish vocal and guitar duo
  • Guitaro … Acoustic guitar, drums & vocals
  • Helvetica Trio … String trio
  • Erik Robert Jacobson … Bach cello
  • Susan Keser … Classical, pop violin
  • Poor Cousins … Irish folk duo

MUNY has more than 350 individuals and groups on their roster, performing approximately 7,500 annual performances in 30 transit locations around the City. Music Under New York is one of many visual and performing arts programs administered by MTA Arts for Transit and Urban Design to enhance the station environment for the customer.  MTA Arts for Transit and Urban Design enhances the transit environment throughout the MTA system with permanent art, music performances, photography, poetry and posters.
