2nd Avenue Restaurant & Retail Week
The MTA and the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors are proud to announce 2nd Avenue Restaurant and Retail Week June 1-8, 2013. In its second year, more restaurants are participating and retailers are getting into the act. All of the participating businesses will be offering discounts and specials for the week. Diners and shoppers just need to show a 2nd Avenue Restaurant and Retail postcard or download the link onto their cell phones and show the business to receive the discount.
Together with the MTA, the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce (MCC) has been working for years on marketing the business corridor affected by subway construction from 68th to 96th Streets to help promote shopping along the avenue. The “Shop 2nd Avenue---It’s Worth It!” marketing campaign began in 2010 with a series of advertisements, including a Shop 2nd Avenue logo placement on over 1 million MetroCards. MCC has held meetings and events with Google Places and Foursquare to help the merchants with their marketing as well as with Con Edison to assist with energy savings. MCC also organized Small Business Saturday last Fall, the American Express program to highlight shopping local and plans to promote the program again this year.
“We’re building one of the largest subway expansions currently underway in the United States, in one of the densest populated areas in the entire country. We’re sympathetic to the construction impacts and Restaurant and Retail Week on 2nd Avenue is a great way to promote local businesses,” said MTA Capital Construction President Michael Horodniceanu.
The Manhattan Chamber of Commerce thanks our sponsors, TD Bank and Huledet for their support of this initiative.
