As forces work to clear up to seven inches of snow from tracks, yards, depots and other facilities across the MTA regional transportation network, some regular weekday service will continue to operate at reduced levels.
MTA Long Island Rail Road is operating on a Weekend schedule today, while MTA Metro-North Railroad is operating on a Saturday schedule. Regular subway service s being provided, however there will be very limited NYC Transit express subway service after the evening rush hour as trains are stored overnight on underground express tracks while yards are cleared of snow and ice.service. Most Planned Work scheduled for this weekend on the subway has been canceled.
In addition, service can be curtailed or suspended on an individual line or route basis as conditions warrant. Customers are urged to be careful boarding buses and trains, allow extra time if traveling and to monitor Service Status for the latest updates.
New York City Subway
Normal weekday service is being provided with minor delays. Most Planned Work for this weekend has been canceled due to the storm. Subway cars are being stored underground to protect the equipment. Because of this, express service could be impacted. Customers are reminded to use extreme caution on stairs and platforms.
Customers can anticipate delays throughout the city due to road conditions. The Department of Buses has put installed tire chains on all buses going into service. Several routes are operating with weather related delays and service changes.
Long Island Rail Road
The MTA Long Island Rail Road is operating on a weekend schedule with off-peak fares today. With the implementation of the weekend schedule, there will be no service between Greenport and Ronkonkoma and no service on the West Hempstead Branch.
Metro-North will operate a Saturday schedule (without the trains marked as Shoppers’ Specials in the timetable). The Haverstraw-Ossining Ferry and Newburgh-Beacon Ferry will not operate and the Hudson Rail Link will operate on a special schedule.
Customers may experience additional travel and wait times. Due to snowfall amounts and forecasted cold temperatures, customers may want to reconsider travel, unless medically necessary.
Bridges and Tunnels
Due to high winds and road conditions motorists are asked to drive at reduced speeds.
