The Labor Productivity Unit's staff is charged with the
responsibility of overseeing sick leave control programs for NYCT. As a part of
that responsibility, OLR gives day-to-day advice to managers and supervisors on
issues related to employee availability policies, procedures and laws. Duties
of the Labor Productivity Unit include utilizing Special Inspectors who
investigate the authenticity of employees' sick leave claims by contacting the
employees at their homes. Employees are contacted by telephone and in-person
visits. The Labor Cost Control Unit is commissioned to review, investigate and
verify medical documentation for all operating and administrative departments.
Additionally, OLR works in conjunction with Occupational Health Services in
reviewing sick leave applications.
