The group also works with field personnel to maintain consistent records of track inspection and repair to improve the structural integrity and safety of MTA/NYCTs transportation system.
Responsibilities:
Maintenance of Way, Track Maintenance Planning, is tasked with the automation of track inspection data collection, track complaint and repair processes. One application entitled IRIS (Integrated Railway Inspection System) out of several has been developed to simplify administration of track infrastructure defect program. Interns will primarily be tasked with Quality Assurance (Q/A) testing of IRIS functionality, data extraction and analysis, ongoing research on Pictorial Inspection System and geo coding of defect location data using GPS/CAD/GIS.
Special Qualifications or Background Needed:

The Employee Suggestion Program is an employee incentive program that affords Transit employees the opportunity to submit ideas they believe will positively impact any operation within the Transit System for recognition and award. It is the function of the ESP staff to administer and facilitate the review of the suggestions and report findings as required. Annually we arrange and oversee an award ceremony to recognize the selected winners and exhibit their ideas were appropriate.
Responsibilities:
To assist in administering the activities and functions of the Employee Suggestion Program by performing the following tasks:
- Assist with the preparation of suggestions for department review; perform follow-up and tracking, researching, and reporting the status of suggestions as required.
- Assist with the monitoring of ESP Hot Line and email box responding to employee inquiries by telephone and/or form letter.
- Perform data entry, filing and Xeroxing
- Prepare form letter correspondence and complete mailings,
- Participate in the preparation and execution of the Annual Employee Award Ceremony.
Special Qualifications or Background Needed:
Require excellent proof reading, good organization skills, attention to details with initiative; knowledge of Microsoft Word, and Excel; self-starter with the ability to work independently. Knowledge of Access for data entry and follow up desired.

The Division of OperationsPlanning is responsible for designing effective and efficient subway and busservice for New York City Transit. The Subway Operations Improvement unit monitors and measures subway operational performance and develops strategies for reducing delays and improving performance. The unit works closely with other OP units, as well as with the Department of Subways.
Project Responsibilities:
The Operations Analysis Internwill undertake one or more in-depth analyses of a specific aspect of subwayoperations, such as on-time performance or the regularity of train service, fora single line or a group of lines. Taskscan cover the full range of an operations analysis, from data collection through data entry to statistical analysis and development ofrecommendations. While some of the datacollection will involve the use of available systems resources, much will require directly observing train operations. The specific project(s) to which the intern will be assigned will bedetermined based on the current needs of the Subway Operations Improvement unitand the skills and interests of the intern selected.

Project Manager will teach selected participant Employee Information System (EIS)/PeopleSoft computer program, which will also be used during the course of duties to update disciplinary cases and to enter and update grievances.
