The group also works with field personnel to maintain consistent records of track inspection and repair to improve the structural integrity and safety of MTA/NYCT’s transportation system.
Responsibilities:
Maintenance of Way, Track Maintenance Planning, is tasked with the automation of track inspection data collection, track complaint and repair processes. One application entitled IRIS (Integrated Railway Inspection System) out of several has been developed to simplify administration of track infrastructure defect program. Interns will primarily be tasked with Quality Assurance (Q/A) testing of IRIS functionality, data extraction and analysis, ongoing research on Pictorial Inspection System and geocoding of defect location data using GPS/CAD/GIS.

Warranty Administration, a unit within Subdivision of Quality Assurance and Warranty Control, is responsible for the administration, management and control of all R142, R142A, R143 and R160 contract warranties and is charged to maintain rigorous standards to ensure that NYCT receives the maximum value under the provisions of each Contract. Phase II PC Deployment
The Materiel department will be installing and deploying approximately 100 desktop PC’s for users at 2 Broadway (18th\19th floors). This intern will assist with deployment, interact with Unisys (NYCT’s IT outsourcer) in creating a schedule for deployment, working with the each user to ensure that the correct software and image is loaded, user testing after the install and management of the user sign off process. Additional tasks will include notifying the users via email, handling any outstanding deployment issues, creating tickets and necessary follow up. Weekly meetings with the outsourcer and NYCT management will also be required. An asset database of inventory changes must be updated with each new deployment. Spreadsheet or database experience would be beneficial.
Forms Management and Development
The Materiel department would like to streamline many of the existing forms based paper processes that exist within several departments with new PDF technology. Many of the forms can be created in a PDF so that users can perform varies tasks more efficiently. Many of the existing procedures are outdated. The intern will be provided an overview of the current process and participate in several brain storming sessions with business and IT related staff. The intern should be familiar with Adobe PDF editing, password encryption and overall functionality of Forms processing.
Web Development

Tasks include: running inquiries using the Peregrine Service Desk system; assisting with verifying the monthly Invoice and Service Level Agreement contract; analyzing closed problem tickets; evaluating contractor desktop computer support; performing Q and A follow-up with users; assisting with verification of invoice data; analyzing inventory data versus monthly performance data submitted by Unisys using MS Access and Excel; and gathering/collecting contractor performance data for further analysis using MS Access and Excel.

Within TIS, the Unified General Order System (UGOS) is a long-term project of several interrelated modules, all of which need updated documentation and cross-referencing. Code internal to the database (Oracle PL/SQL) needs to be linked with forms and reports external to the database. Screen usage needs updating. UGOS has an intelligent user community across many Transit departments, and a stable development team. In the past, interns have contributed to data-entry and testing tasks. The riding public sees UGOS data output as subway service diversion signs – internal to Transit, it is a resource management and scheduling tool. |

The Division of Operations Planning is responsible for designing effective and efficient subway and bus service for New York City Transit. The Subway Operations Improvement unit monitors and measures subway operational performance and develops strategies for reducing delays and improving performance. The unit works closely with other OP units, as well as with the Department of Subways.
Project Responsibilities:
The Operations Analysis Intern will undertake one or more in-depth analyses of a specific aspect of subway operations, such as on-time performance or the regularity of train service, for a single line or a group of lines. Tasks can cover the full range of an operations analysis, from data collection through data entry to statistical analysis and development of recommendations. While some of the data collection will involve the use of available systems resources, much will require directly observing train operations. The specific project(s) to which the intern will be assigned will be determined based on the current needs of the Subway Operations Improvement unit and the skills and interests of the intern selected.
