Overview of Dept/Division: This Division of Car Equipment is responsible for maintaining the Department of Subways’ rolling stock of over 5,000 subway cars in a state of good repair. We are responsible for overhaul activities, engineering oversight and quality assurance and warranty control. Over the past few years we have embarked on a major program to procure new subway cars. Over the past several years we purchased 1,061 R142 cars, 633 R142A cars and 230 R143 cars and we are in the process of purchasing over 1,600 R160 cars. In early 2000, the Division of Car Equipment implemented the Rolling Stock Maintenance Information System (RSMIS), a computerized maintenance management system to track, analyze and administer the new car warranties.
Project Responsibilities: Warranty Administration, a unit within Subdivision of Quality Assurance and Warranty Control, is responsible for the administration, management and control of all R142, R142A, R143 and R160 contract warranties and is charged to maintain rigorous standards to ensure that NYCT receives the maximum value under the provisions of each Contract. In this capacity, we serve as the point of contact with contractors, mediate shop level disputes between the contractors and Maintenance Shops on issues pertaining to warranty and submit relevant warranty charges to the contractors. Some of our major responsibilities include establishing warranty records in the RSMIS database and monitoring the dataset for all defects, repairs, modifications, train troubles, warranty extensions, warranty claims and car histories. We analyze database information to verify that cars, car systems and car components are meeting or exceeding performance criteria established in the technical specifications. We also provide reports for Project Management review that identify failure trends and target potential items for fleet defect recommendation.

Overview of Dept/Division: This position is in the Division of Capital Planning & Budget (CPB) in NYCT’s Department of Capital Program Management (CPM). CPB is responsible for the planning and budgetary oversight of NYCT’s capital investment program.
Responsibilities: In support of ongoing divisional needs regarding NYCT’s capital program, the aide will participate in the following planning related activities: prioritization and programming of long term investments, benefit-cost analysis of capital project proposals, review of project budgets and spending. The aide will also assist with other divisional activities, as required, to support the planning of the Capital Program.
Special Qualifications or Background Needed: Knowledge of transportation planning principles, experience with benefit-cost and other analytical techniques. Good communication, writing and computer skills desired.
