Project Description:
This position is for a research project and will provide support for the Research and Training team under the department of Administration. The position involves researching internal company interests such as employee availability, conflict resolution, childcare, and others. Ingenuity in research design is required, such as using face-to-face interviews, phone interviews, focus groups, surveys, internet research, historical data research, and statistical analysis. Although the position’s main focus will be a large research project, office administration skills will also be required in order to assist in creation of training courses with creating participant guide binders and PowerPoint presentations. The Operations Analysis Intern will undertake one or more in-depth analyses of a specific aspect of subway operations, such as on-time performance or the regularity of train service, for a single line or a group of lines. While some of the data collection will involve the use of available systems resources, much will require directly observing train operations. The New York Transit Museum Archives is the official repository for administrative
records of enduring historical value of the MTA and its predecessor agencies;
historical documents are also acquired from outside sources. The New York
Transit Museum Archives collects historical documents and works of art on
paper relating to New York City mass transit from the mid-nineteenth century
to the present. These records and documents include photographs, moving image
materials, maps, posters, engineering drawings, books and serial publications,
reports, proposals, records of legal proceedings, correspondence, and other
materials. The Archives preserves and catalogs these materials and makes
them available to researchers. The Archives provide reference services by
telephone and mail, conducts research, supports all Museum staff functions
(exhibitions, programs, development, retail operations, outreach) and initiates
publications that provide historical information to the public.

- Photographic negatives and slides will be scanned, metadata created and images will be attached to our collection management database PastPerfect.
Special Qualifications or Background Needed:
Students in archives management, library and information science, digital media,
museum studies, conservation/preservation administration, history, and photography
who have had coursework or experience in cataloging and classification, preservation
administration, indexing and abstracting and/or historical research methods
are encouraged to apply. For digital media management the student should
have a familiarity with Photoshop and the creation of image metadata.
