Overview of Dept/Division: The Compliance and Support Unit (CSU) is a part of Occupational Health Services (OHS). CSU is responsible for processing the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) applications for all of Transit. It is also responsible for reviewing the Medical Appeal/Impartial process, the Americans with Disabilities Act cases, and processing the Managerial Short Term Disability applications. In addition, the unit conducts the internal control testing of OHS’ activities and is also responsible for the inventory of the division’s furniture and non-computer equipment. Transit’s Health Fair is planned and implemented by CSU in conjunction with a team of volunteers from OHS and other departments.
Responsibilities: The selected candidate will be engaged in the processing of FMLA applications using the EIS database. In addition to the computer piece, the work involves heavy faxing of approved FMLA applications as well as copying and filing of documents.
Special Qualifications or Background Needed:
- Knowledge of PC applications including Microsoft Office.
- Strong verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.

Overview of Dept/Division:
The Paratransit Division provides transportation to persons with disabilities
who are otherwise unable, as a result of their disability, to use regular
public transportation. Eligibility for Paratransit is determined by NYC
Transit. The eligibility determination may be appealed and that appeal
is processed and heard by the Appeals Unit.
Responsibilities:
The intern will assist the Director and the Analysts in processing the appeals.
This will include but is not limited to: data input, case preparation,
establishing appeals calendars, answering questions from the public, speaking
to the appellants, locating and reviewing files, attending hearings and
mailing decisions.

Overview of Dept/Division: The Labor Relations position in the field locations handles all grievance hearings emanating from Union covered employees. The skills necessary include a comprehensive understanding of the Union Contracts, as well as an understanding of field operations. The ability to work with and through many levels of management is mandatory.
Responsibilities: The responsibilities include basic clerical work, such as: Xeroxing, filing, developing case folders, opening and organizing incoming mail. Responsibilities will also include data entry, and assisting in researching and collecting data for case investigations.
Special Qualifications or Background Needed: Must have excellent interpersonal skills, an excellent work ethic, basic computer skills, a desire to learn, and good communication skills.

Assist in the operations of the Office of the Legal Liaison
Unit with processing of large volumes of legal documents that are kept on
file at the main office, in compliance with NYCT’s Record Retention Schedule.
Perform data entry, filing and handling of records. Ability to multi task
and follow up on the numerous work requests received by the Legal Liaison
Unit.
Special Qualifications or Background Needed:
Some computer skills,
administrative skills and good customer service skills required. Accuracy
is essential in this very busy office.
