Responsibilities: Under direct supervision and administrative direction, performs clinical laboratory procedures of limited to moderate technical difficulty such as administering drug and alcohol breath tests and saliva test - all of which are carried out in compliance with U.S. Department of Transportation regulations and New York City Transit Drug and Alcohol policies. There are three Assignment Levels within this title. All personnel perform related work. The following are typical work assignments of this title: collects urine specimens for routine and toxicological analysis; administers breath and saliva test; obtains blood specimens for alcohol analysis and lead test; labels stores and preserves specimens; and disposes of completed specimens. May be required to drive a motor vehicle at times.
Exper. & Educ.: 1. A high school diploma or its educational equivalent and a certificate of completion in a recognized training program in phlebotomy, medical technology or medical assistant or a closely related field; plus four years of full-time experience primarily performing phlebotomy work; or 2. An Associate degree from an accredited college with a major (at least 16 credits) in medical technology, medical assistant or a closely related field of study, plus two years of experience as described in "1(a)" above. 3. Candidate must possess a valid NYS driver's license.
Desired Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience with the navigation and use of complex medical databases. Experience performing U.S. DOT drug and alcohol specimen collections including preparation of chain of custody forms.
