Responsibilities: Operates, maintains, installs, inspects, tests, and repairs the Staten Island Railway’s power substation equipment and related Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) computer equipment; Performs related electrical work as directed by Supervision. Examples of Typical Tasks: Inspects, operates, maintains, services and repairs silicon rectifiers, high tension and low tension switch gear, automatic relay panels and circuits, auxiliary equipment, battery systems, and SCADA systems.

Exper. & Educ.: A motor vehicle driver license that is valid in the state of New York. Four years of related electrical - electronic experience and/or education background. A background in substation high tension maintenance and SCADA operations is preferable.

Responsibilities: Signal Helpers assist Signal Maintainers in the installation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of the signal system. They clean, lubricate, and inspect all signal equipment; excavate and backfill the trenches; remove painting and graffiti from all equipment; remove snow during emergency and storm duty; operate a motor vehicle; and perform related work.

Exper. & Educ.: Graduation from a trade school, technical school or vocational high school, approved by a State’s Department of Education or a comparable agency, with a major course of study in electrical, electronic or electromechanical technology and one year of full-time satisfactory experience as a helper in the electrical, electronic, or electromechanical fields. Desired Skills: The ability to read and understand electrical drawings and knowledge of Programmable Logic Computers (PLC). License Requirement: A Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) valid in the State of New York or a learner’s permit for a Class B CDL with no disqualifying restrictions. A Class B CDL permit holder must obtain the Class B CDL license within six months of appointment.
