About FASTRACK
MTA New York City Transit’s new FASTRACK initiative is an entirely new way to perform subway maintenance in our system. By completely suspending train service over a segment of a subway line, we give our workers uninterrupted access to tracks, signals, cables, lighting, third rail components and platform edges.
Four FASTRACK line shutdowns were completed in the first quarter of this year which resulted in an unprecedented amount of work being accomplished. Most importantly, FASTRACK resulted in a safer
and more efficient environment for our employees to inspect, maintain, and clean our 24/7 subway system.
Transit employees inspected hundreds of signals and switches, repaired and replaced track rails and cross ties,
cleaned track floors, performed elevator and escalator repair work, repaired water damage, cleared drains, cleaned stations and repainted areas that had not been touched in years because they are not reachable during normal train operation. We cleaned lighting fixtures, changed bulbs and repaired platform edges. We also performed high intensity station cleaning. These maintenance activities improve train performance and efficiency while also providing
a visible improvement to the station environment.
FASTRACK returns to the on April 9, closing stations on the 34 St-Penn Station to Atlantic Av/South Ferry corridor. There will be no service between 34 St-Penn Station and South Ferry,
and no or between 34 St-Penn Station and Atlantic Av. You can expect to add 20 minutes to your usual travel time.

- How does FASTRACK affect service?
Under the FASTRACK program, we will close a subway line segment only where nearby alternative subway service is available. On some lines, we will run subway service that normally doesn't run at night. We'll also ensure that no other service changes are planned on lines which provide alternate service. When the segment of a line is closed at night, you can expect to add 20 minutes to your usual travel time.
