MTA New York City Transit’s FASTRACK subway maintenance program continues in 2013 with an even more ambitious schedule. Go to the schedule now. The 2013 program will, for the first time, expand to outside of Manhattan to address critical infrastructure in other boroughs. In addition FASTRACK will, for the first time, be expanded to weekends on some lines. FASTRACK has allowed crews to work more productively, achieving efficiencies valued at $16.7 million in 2012. An additional benefit of the FASTRACK project environment is a significantly lower accident rate experienced by participating employees. During FASTRACK 2012, the Lost Time Accident rate per 100 Employees dropped to 1.38/year versus a rate of 2.42/year during all other operations. Building on the success of last year’s accomplishments, NYC Transit is planning to capitalize further on the ability to coordinate a multi-pronged, intense maintenance schedule that is made possible by the closing off of segments of subway lines for several consecutive days at a time. The key component to this program is the complete suspension of train service over a segment of a subway line to give workers uninterrupted access to tracks, signals, cables, lighting, third rail components, and platform edges. See the schedule below and check back for further schedule updates. |
