REVISED DATES: Hazardous Material and Over Height Vehicles Must Use Alternate Routes During Verrazano-Narrows Bridge Nighttime Upper Level Closures Next Week
The upper level of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge will remain open the rest of this week, Aug. 6 to Aug. 9, since scheduled work has been completed.
Next week, the upper level will be closed Mon. Aug. 11 through Fri., Aug. 15 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. eastbound to Brooklyn and 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. westbound to Staten Island. On Saturday, it will reopen at 7 a.m. There will be no work on Saturday or Sunday nights.  Work will resume Monday night, Aug.18 and Tues., Aug. 19, ending Wednesday morning, Aug. 20.
The closures will have little impact on motorists since the lower level, which is normally closed at night, will remain open.
Commercial vehicles carrying hazardous materials and those that are more than 13-feet-6-inches tall will not be permitted to cross the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in either direction during nighttime upper level closures next week. These vehicles must use alternate routes.
In addition to hazardous material and over height vehicles, trucks that are more than
17-feet-wide will not be permitted to cross the lower level westbound into Staten Island during the full upper level closures.
There is no restriction on over-wide vehicles on the lower level heading into Brooklyn.
