Buses Replace Train Service between Huntington & Port Jefferson For Track Work This Weekend, Saturday & Sunday, May 18-19
LIRR Customers Are Advised to Allow for Extra Travel Time
Buses will replace train service on the Port Jefferson Branch between Huntington and Port Jefferson beginning at 12:35 AM Saturday, May 18 and through Sunday, May 19 so that the LIRR can renew the crossing at Lawrence Road in Kings Park. Workers will also be replacing concrete ties in the area.
During the train outage, eastbound trips will take longer than usual and westbound buses will leave up to 18 minutes later than scheduled train departures. The project will continue through the weekend with train service resuming early Monday morning in plenty of time for the AM peak commute. Approximately 1,900 customers in each direction will be impacted each day and customers are reminded to allow extra time for travel.
Customers will board buses at Huntington for stations Greenlawn through Port Jefferson, arriving at their destination up to 26 minutes later than normal.
Customers will board buses at their home stations up to 18 minutes earlier than normal for Huntington where train service will resume.
The project is part of the LIRR's ongoing efforts to keep its vast infrastructure in a state of good repair. The Railroad has budgeted $48 million for upgrading of track and signals in 2013.
