Long Island Rail Road Adding Extra Trains for July Fourth Getaway
Railroad to Offer 10 Early Departure Trains on Friday, June 30, and Monday, July 3

MTA Long Island Rail Road is helping customers get a head start on the holiday weekend by adding 10 extra early getaway trains on Friday, June 30. The railroad will add the same trains again on Monday, July 3.

10 Extra Trains from Penn Station on Friday, June 30, and Monday, July 3

To help customers get a head start on the long weekend, the LIRR will operate 10 extra trains from Penn Station on Friday, June 30, departing between 1:49 p.m. and 3:48 p.m. on five branches. Details are below.

Babylon Branch

  • 2:22 p.m. express to Rockville Centre, then all stops to Babylon
  • 2:32 p.m. express to Lynbrook, then all stops to Babylon
  • 3:00 p.m. stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre, all stops to Babylon
  • 3:31 p.m. express to Rockville Centre, then all stops to Babylon

Far Rockaway Branch

  • 3:48 p.m. stopping at Locust Manor, then making all stops to Far Rockaway

Port Jefferson Branch

  • 2:08 p.m. stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, then making all stops to Huntington
  • 2:29 p.m. stopping at Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Jamaica, New Hyde Park, then making all stops to Huntington
  • 3:24 p.m. stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, Westbury and Hicksville

Port Washington Branch

  • 3:40 p.m. stopping at Woodside, Flushing Main St., all stops to Great Neck

Ronkonkoma Branch

  • 1:49 p.m. stopping at Woodside, Jamaica, Mineola, Hicksville, then making all stops to Ronkonkoma except Pinelawn

Extra Trains to the Hamptons and Fire Island

The LIRR is supplementing the Montauk Branch’s usual slate of seasonal Friday extra trains with even more departures for Friday, June 30, and again on Monday, July 3. Here is a list of the extra trains will operate on both Friday, June 30, and Monday, July 3.

  • To Fire Island: An 8:08 a.m. train from Jamaica running express to Babylon, then Bay Shore, Sayville, and Patchogue is timed to connect with ferries to Fire Island; this train meets connecting trains that depart Penn Station at 7:39 a.m. and Atlantic Terminal at 7:41 a.m.
  • To Fire Island: 10:59 a.m. from Penn Station will stop at Jamaica and Babylon, where customers can connect for a 12:02 p.m. departure stopping at Bay Shore, Sayville and Patchogue. This train is timed to connect with ferries to Fire Island.
  • To the Hamptons: 11:30 a.m. from Jamaica running express to Patchogue, then making all stops to Montauk; this train meets connecting trains that depart Penn Station and Atlantic Terminal at 11:05 a.m.
  • To the Hamptons: 1:47 p.m. from Hunterspoint Avenue, stopping at Jamaica then running express to Westhampton and making all stops to Montauk. This train meets connecting trains that depart Penn Station at 1:41 p.m. and Atlantic Terminal at 1:35 p.m.
  • To the Hamptons: 3:18 p.m. from Jamaica running express to Westhampton and making all stops to Montauk. This train meets connecting trains that depart Penn Station at 2:56 p.m. and Atlantic Terminal at 2:35 p.m. (This train will operate on Friday, June 30, but will not operate on Monday, July 3.)
  • The Cannonball to the Hamptons: 4:06 p.m. train from Penn Station runs express to Westhampton, then stops at Southampton, Bridgehampton, East Hampton and Montauk. (A 4:06 p.m. departure will also operate on Thursday, June 29, for those looking to get away even earlier.)

Service During the Weekend

A regular weekend schedule will be in effect on Saturday, July 1, and Sunday, July 2. The LIRR will operate on a regular weekday schedule on Monday, July 3, with the extra trains noted above, and will operate on a Sunday schedule on Tuesday, July 4.

A bicycle ban will be in effect on Friday, June 30; Saturday, July 1; and Tuesday, July 4.

Wednesday, July 5 – One Extra Westbound Montauk Branch Train to Operate

To help customers returning from the long weekend, an extra train will depart from Montauk at 7:00 a.m. and will make all stops to Speonk, then Patchogue, Sayville, Bay Shore, Jamaica and Hunterspoint Avenue.

Information about these additional trains and all planned service changes is available through the LIRR’s real-time service information sources:

Email and text message service updates – Customers are urged to sign up to receive the alerts by visiting MyMTAAlerts.com. To avoid unwanted messages, a user can tailor the messages to the specific branch, and the specific times of day.

MTA.info – The rail tab of the “Service Status” box at the left side of www.MTA.info is always the definitive source for the latest status for each branch, updated every minute. In addition, customers can visit www.mta.info/lirr to see special service notices in the upper center of the page.

@LIRR on Twitter – Twitter users can follow @LIRR to receive updates of a similar nature to the email and text alerts, shortened to fit Twitter’s format.

LIRR Train Time app – Customers who use the LIRR Train Time app will see up-to-the-minute status for each upcoming train at each station. As a caution, trains that start out their trips on time may experience delays en route.

The above communications channels can be accessed while at home or on the go. For customers who are located at stations, the LIRR will post the latest service updates on digital signs at station platforms and will make audio announcements over public address systems, and on-board announcements made by train crews.
