Midweek Infrastructure Work in Mattituck to Improve Ride on North Fork
Buses to Substitute For Two Trains Wednesday, Oct. 4 Between Riverhead + Greenport

LIRR crews will renew the railroad crossing at Love Lane in Mattituck on Wednesday, Oct. 4, as part of the 2017 Annual Track Rehabilitation Project. The work will improve safety and reliability on the Ronkonkoma Branch, as well as provide a smoother ride for customers.

To allow for this work to be completed between 6:10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 4, customers will board buses for transport between Riverhead, Mattituck, Southold and Greenport in place of one eastbound train and one westbound train.

As the LIRR strives to minimize impacts on our customers as it performs necessary infrastructure upgrades, the work was scheduled midweek to lessen disruptions on popular North Fork weekends. Funds for this work are included in the 2015-19 Capital Program.


The 10:44 a.m. departure from Ronkonkoma due into Greenport at 12:08 p.m. will terminate at Riverhead its usual time of 11:28 a.m. Customers seeking to travel to Mattituck, Southold or Greenport will transfer to buses at Riverhead for continuing service. Customers should plan for up to 10 minutes of additional travel time.


The 12:58 p.m. departure from Greenport, due into Ronkonkoma at 2:22 p.m., will originate at Riverhead at its usual time of 1:37 p.m. Customers traveling from Greenport, Southold or Mattituck will find buses departing up to 13 minutes before regularly scheduled departure times. The bus will stop at Southold at 12:56 p.m.; Mattituck at 1:10 p.m. and Riverhead at 1:27 p.m. Customers will then board the 1:37 p.m. train at Riverhead due Penn Station at 4:02 p.m.

Impact to Motorists

Motorists are advised that from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Oct. 4, the crossing at Love Lane will be closed to traffic. While work is in progress, MTA PD officers will assist with the closure and traffic detours. Temporary paving will be installed at the crossing to be permanently repaved at a later date.

The above communications channels can be accessed while at home or on the go. For customers who are located at stations, the LIRR will post the latest service updates on digital signs at station platforms and will make audio announcements over public address systems, and on-board announcements made by train crews.
