Bicyclists Benefit From New Joint Train Permit

MTA Long Island Rail Road and MTA Metro-North Railroad recently made it easier for customers to transport their bicycles outside New York City by issuing joint bicycle permits that will be honored by both railroads.

The new permit is available at both LIRR and Metro-North ticket offices at Penn Station and Grand Central Terminal as well as through the mail. The one-time cost of a new permit is $5, and it is valid indefinitely. Customers with an existing permit for either railroad can exchange it for a new one at no charge at a ticket window or through the mail by completing a new application and submitting it along with the old permit. Each railroad has its own rules and restrictions which are stated on the applications.

For more information, LIRR customers can call (718) 558-8228 or write to MTA LIRR, Cyc-n-Ride, Jamaica Station, Jamaica, NY 11435. Metro-North customers can call 800-METRO-INFO (212-532-4900 in New York City). Applications for both railroads can also be accessed and printed from the MTA website.
