MTA Chairman Peter S. Kalikow today announced that all tenants in MTA properties must comply with the New York City Clean Indoor Air Act.
In a letter from the MTA's Director of Real Estate, leaseholders at Grand Central Terminal and Penn Station were reminded that, "the provisions of your lease require you to abide by New York City's Laws, as well as New York State law."
Furthermore, the leaseholders were reminded that, "the new smoking ban will take effect in New York City on March 30, 2003 and that full compliance is expected."
Mr. Kalikow said, "Adopting New York City's anti-smoking legislation at our New York City facilities makes sense and avoids confusion. MTA customers, employees, and employees of retail establishments in our facilities are entitled to enjoy the health benefit of a smoke free environment."
