MTA Police announced today the implementation of a Zero Tolerance policy on alcohol consumption on St. Patrick's Day, March 17th, throughout the MTA system. Specifically, open alcohol containers will be strictly prohibited on board trains, platforms, or in stations. Travelers found in possession of an open container may be subject to a criminal summons or arrest.
At Grand Central Terminal and Penn Station, alcohol sales by MTA tenants for off premises consumption will be prohibited. Additional police personnel will be deployed throughout the MTA rail system to actively patrol and enforce Zero Tolerance policy.
For many customers March 17th will be a workday, and the MTA Police are jointly working with state and local law enforcement agencies to ensure that all passengers and employees using the MTA system can enjoy a safe commuting environment and an enjoyable St. Patrick's Day celebration.
