On Monday, February 25, MTA New York City Transit brings FASTRACK to Upper Manhattan on the A Line. There will be no service on the A between 168 th Street and 207 th Street from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m., for four consecutive weeknights from Monday, February 25 to early Friday morning, March 1. A trains will operate between Lefferts Blvd/Howard Beach and 168 th Street.
Customers may use:
- 1 train service at nearby stations between 207 th Street and Dyckman Street
- 1 train or M4 bus for service to and from A stations at 190 th Street, 181 st Street and 175 th Street
Transfers between A and 1 trains or the special M4 bus should be made at the 168 th Street station. A local service to C stations begins early. Customers should allow for additional travel time.
FASTRACK was introduced in January 2012, devoting four straight weeknights to perform maintenance work in tunnels, stations and on tracks, completely suspending service within a given line segment for a seven-hour period between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. This gives free access to the system, allowing an army of maintenance workers to perform dozens of tasks without the concern of having to “clear up” to allow trains to pass.
The new FASTRACK corridors for 2013 include: the Concourse Line D between 161 st and 205 th Streets; the Queens Boulevard Line E M F R between 5 th Av/53 rd Street and Roosevelt Avenue; the 2 line along Nostrand Avenue between Franklin and Flatbush Avenues and the Lexington Avenue 4 5 6 between Grand Central-42 nd Street and 125 th Streets.
FASTRACK projects are also scheduled for the Sixth/Eighth Avenue Lines (A B C D) between 59 th Street-Columbus Circle and 168 th Street-Broadway and 161 st Street; Nassau Street-Broad Street-Essex Street on the J; the Fourth Avenue line (D N R) between 36 th Street and 95 th Streets in Brooklyn.
These FASTRACK efforts have been designed around the careful determination that there is adequate alternate means of transportation, including enhanced services along some bus lines during work periods. Alternative transportation options will be detailed in announcements and posters on trains, in stations and on selected buses; brochures will be available in both English and Spanish. Information on this FASTRACK is available on the web at http://www.mta.info/nyct/service/fastrack_A.htm.
Our next FASTRACK overnight closure will be between 5 th Avenue-53 rd Street and Roosevelt Avenue on the EM and between 21 st Street-Queensbridge Plaza and Roosevelt Avenue on the F from March 18-22, 2013.
