FASTRACK Maintenance and Repair Work to Bring Improvements to the ACBD Lines

Beginning Monday, July 10, an extensive list of maintenance, cleaning and repair work will be performed along a significant portion of the acbd lines, as MTA New York City Transit’s FASTRACK program returns to Upper Manhattan and the Bronx for two weeks.  FASTRACK work will be performed for four consecutive weeknights, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. on July 10-14 and again on July 17-21.

During those periods, a trains will be suspended in both directions between 59 St-Columbus Circle and Inwood-207 St and d trains will be suspended between 59 St Columbus Circle and 161St-Yankee Stadium.  b and c service will end early each night, and 124 trains, Bx12, Bx19, and free shuttle buses will provide alternate service.

During this seven-hour period, an army of maintenance workers will take advantage of train-free access to the tracks to perform dozens of tasks that are vital to providing safe and reliable train service.  These tasks include the repair and replacement of track, third rail, electrical and signal components, debris removal from tracks and under or around the third rail, and the repair of tunnel infrastructure.  Improvements to station aesthetics include painting, platform work, and repairs to signage, lighting fixtures and ADA components.

Wynton Habersham, Senior Vice President for the Department of Subways, said, "FASTRACK has proven to be a significant driver behind decreasing delays – FASTRACK is effective because it allows us to consolidate maintenance forces in a concentrated area and perform proactive maintenance.  Both combine to improve service delivery."

FASTRACK has been designed around the careful determination that there is adequate alternate means of transportation, including enhanced services along some bus lines during work periods.  Alternative transportation options will be detailed in announcements and posters on trains, in stations and on selected buses.

During this FASTRACK, trains will operate as follows:  a service will operate between Ozone Park-Lefferts Blvd or Far Rockaway and 59 St-Columbus Circle.  d service will operate in two sections, between Norwood-205 St and 161 St-Yankee Stadium and between 59 St-Columbus Circle and Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue.  As an alternative, customers should take the 124 trains, the Bx12 or Bx19 buses and free shuttle bus service.

  • a Customers should take the 1 for service between Midtown and Washington Heights/Inwood.
  • d Customers should take the 2 and 4 for service between the Bronx and Midtown.
  • For Central Park West, customers may use nearby 1 and 2 stations along Broadway.
  • In Harlem, customers may use nearby 12 stations or take free shuttle buses to/from the 110 St or 157 St stations. Bx19 buses run along 145 St.
  • In Washington Heights/Inwood, customers may use nearby 1 stations along St Nicholas Av, the Bx12, or free shuttle buses instead.
  • The 42 St s Shuttle will operate through the night.

Connecting bus service is available at select stations.  The Bx12 operates between the 207 St 1 and a stations.  The Bx19 operates between the 145 St 1 station and the 145 St ad station, and the Bronx.  Free shuttle buses will operate on three routes:

  • Dyckman St Loop between a and 1.
  • Free shuttle buses run along the M4 route all night to/from 168 St serving the 190 St, 181 St, and 175 St a line stations.
  • Between the 168 St and 110 St 1 stations, making stops at the 155 St a, 155 St d, 135 St 23, 135 St a, 125 St ad, 116 St a and 110 St a.

Our next FASTRACK overnight closure will be on the q Line in Brooklyn for two consecutive weeks from September 11-15 and September 18-22.
