At approximately 11:20 p.m. on April 24th, NYC Transit Track Worker Daniel Boggs, 42, was struck and killed by a downtown 3 train in the vicinity of the 59th Street - Columbus Circle station.
Boggs was part of a two-person team that was in the process of setting up flagging lanterns - which warn train operators that crews are on the tracks in that area -- in preparation for scheduled switch and rail replacement work along the 7th Ave IRT last night. A Board of Inquiry -- an independent review panel -- has been convened by the NYC Transit Office of System Safety to investigate the circumstances of this incident and to establish cause.
"We will leave no stone unturned as we investigate the circumstances of this incident," said NYC Transit President Howard H. Roberts, Jr. "On behalf of the entire NYC Transit family, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his wife, family, friends, loved ones and co-workers who are dealing with this tragic loss. Daniel Boggs was a dedicated and hard working employee who was well liked and, more importantly, well respected by his colleagues."
Daniel Boggs is survived by his wife and three children and a brother who is also a NYC Transit employee.
