Pennsylvania Av 3 Line Station to Re-open Today at Noon

MTA New York City Transit has completed four months of emergency repairs and will reopen the Pennsylvania Av 3 Subway Line station today at 12:00 p.m.  The station’s mezzanine was severely damaged and had to close for emergency repairs after a truck struck the structure on October 27, 2016.

While the station and tracks were deemed structurally safe, trains had to bypass the station in both directions while the mezzanine and other structural damage was repaired.  During the work, shuttle buses were provided for customers between Pennsylvania Av and the Van Siclen Av station.  

“The completion of this emergency work at the Pennsylvania Avenue station should be welcome news to customers who had to use shuttle buses while crews worked diligently to make the station safe for use again, “Acting New York City Transit President Darryl Irick said.  “Customers once again have a renovated station with new amenities and safety features.”

The Pennsylvania Av 3 Subway Line station was previously part of an $88 million capital project to rehabilitate seven elevated stations along the 3 Subway Line on the New Lots Av Branch in the Brownsville and East New York neighborhoods of Brooklyn.  The project called for station renewals at Sutter Av-Rutland Rd, Saratoga Av, Rockaway Av, Junius St, Pennsylvania Av and Van Siclen Av, as well as component repairs at New Lots Av. 

Improvements at the station include the installation of brand new windscreens, platform lighting, benches, trash receptacles, guard rails and ADA tactile warning strips on the platforms.  Both stations were painted and the fare control areas were reconfigured to enable better customer flow.  Structural renovations include the installation of new columns, platform rubbing boards, and new mezzanine floors.  While service at these stations will be restored, there is still work to be completed, including the installation of new windows, and a new exterior façade to the mezzanine.
