Statement on Shooting Death of NYC Transit Employee

Earlier this morning, NYC Transit Property Protection Agent James Plocica was shot and killed while waiting for a bus in front of 2006 Ralph Avenue, in Brooklyn. Plocica was off duty and on his way home, after working a 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. shift at NYC Transit's Linden Subway Yard.

"On behalf of the 49,000 member NYC Transit family, I want to extend my prayers and express my sincere condolences to PPA Plocica's family, friends and loved ones," said Millard L. Seay, Acting President, NYC Transit.

PPA Plocica has been a valued employee of NYC Transit for five years. Before joining the Department of Security in 2003, Plocica was a Train Operator. "PPA Plocica was a diligent and dedicated agent, said Vincent DeMarino, Vice President of Security. "Everyone who worked with him is at a loss for words."

Since his senseless murder, NYC Transit has been at his family's side and will continue to offer any assistance necessary to the Plocica family during their time of need. "NYC Transit is collaborating with the New York City Police Department in their investigation," said Seay adding "We have every reason to believe that the detectives working this case will identify and eventually bring the perpetrator or perpetrators of this crime to justice."
