Weekend 7 Service Resumes Track Work Finished Early

Normal weekend #7 Flushing line subway service has resumed between 61st Street,Woodside and Main Street,Flushing at 8:45 p.m., due to the combination of completed weekend work goals and the prediction of inclement weather and significant snow accumulations for the morning rush period MTA New York City Transit announced.

Service resumed after a test trains confirmed that all circuits, switches and signals were placed back in proper working order following the service shut down in connection with the second phase of a $76 million capital program to improve and upgrade the subway infrastructure along the Flushing Line.

Weekend service along the Flushing line was suspended between Main Street-Flushing and 61st Street,Woodside early Saturday morning in order to allow for the modernization of the line's signal system between Queensboro Plaza and 82nd Street,Jackson Heights. Included in this project is the reconfiguration of track switches in the vicinity of 74th Street-Broadway. When complete, the new signal system and switches will allow trains to cross between tracks and serve 74th Street-Broadway in the event that track work is being performed in the area.

Local-only 7 service was originally scheduled to resume at 5 A.M. Monday, however having met the projects goal on this initial weekend of work allowed for the resumption of service earlier than planned. There will be no #7 Express service through February 29th, 2007.

"We realize just how much of an inconvenience this work is for our customers," said Lou Brusati, #7 Line General Manager. "Thanks to a lot of hard work and the cooperation of Mother Nature, we are in the enviable position of giving our customers what they rely on every day, and that's normal service."

For customer convenience, the alternate service plan featuring free LIRR service between on the Port Washington branch Flushing-Main Street and Penn Station will continue through the evening. Free NYC Transit Shuttle Bus service between Main Street-Flushing and 74th Street, and Main Street-Flushing and Woodside 61st Street will continue for an hour while service ramps up.

Weekend #7 service is scheduled to be suspended next weekend, beginning at 12:01 a.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Monday between Woodside and Main Street as the project continues. Alternate service will be provided by the Long Island Rail Road, with free service operating between Flushing-Main Street and Penn Station, and Free Shuttle Buses provided by NYC Transit between Main St,Flushing and 74th Street, and 61st Street,Woodside.
