The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced that MTA Construction & Development President Jamie Torres-Springer attended an MTA Jobs Information Event at the Tito Puente Education Complex in East Harlem, held in partnership with the Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York (BCTC) and the Apprenticeship Readiness Collective (ARC), to provide information to the local community on opportunities for good paying construction industry jobs for New York residents, including programs for women, formerly justice involved, and military veterans.
More than 200 attendees learned about career opportunities at MTA Construction & Development for critical projects including the Second Avenue Subway Phase 2 and Park Avenue Viaduct Replacement. The fair outlined opportunities that provide pathways to good paying, unionized construction jobs, as well as information on how to qualify for construction industry pre-apprenticeship training and direct entry access to unionized apprenticeship programs, along with Civil Service opportunities.
“The MTA is committed to providing opportunities for good-paying, union jobs to those in historically underserved communities like East Harlem and we are using creative tools to recruit and train residents into those jobs,” said MTA Construction & Development President Jamie Torres Springer. “Today’s job fair demonstrates this commitment, with over 200 members of the community coming out to learn more about opportunities to help build the next generation of projects, including the Second Avenue Subway Phase 2, which will be transformative for this neighborhood.”
Minimum qualifications for these career opportunities include having a high school diploma or equivalent, be 18 years of age or older, ability to perform physical work, legally eligible to work in the United States, and committed to a clean and sober environment.
