Long Island Rail Road Service Update
The Long Island Rail Road has restored service on the Babylon, Far Rockaway, Hempstead, Long Beach, Oyster Bay and Ronkonkoma branches. Trains are running on a weekend schedule. Hourly service is operating on the Port Washington branch, along with hourly service between Penn Station and Hicksville.
Service on the following branches remains suspended while snow fighting efforts continue as a result of Winter Storm Juno:
- East of Hicksville on the Port Jefferson branch,
- West Hempstead Branch,
- Montauk Branch east of Babylon
- Greenport to Ronkonkoma
As the LIRR recovers from Winter Storm Juno, customers should anticipate train cancellations and delays. For the latest service updates please monitor www.mta.info and follow us on Twitter and Facebook.
Please note that roads remain treacherous and customers are advised to avoid unnecessary travel.
LIRR station waiting rooms will remain open around-the-clock through Friday afternoon, January 30, to provide shelter for customers during cold and inclement weather. Platforms and stairways will continue to be cleared and salted.
The LIRR is taking steps to ensure that switches - which allow rail traffic controllers to route trains from one track to another - are working. The railroad has activated switch heaters, lubricated the switches, and treated them with anti-freeze agents. In addition, track workers are positioned in critical locations to be able to respond if any difficulties crop up at switches. Snow-fighting equipment has been deployed throughout the system to deal with snow drifts on the tracks.
