E-ZPass Usage on MTA Crossings at All Time High

MTA Bridges and Tunnels today announced that E-ZPass usage at its seven bridges and two tunnels is at an all-time high, with 91% of motorists currently paying their tolls with E-ZPass. With the implementation of Cashless Tolling, E-ZPass is the most convenient and cost effective way to pay tolls and the agency is making it easier than ever to manage and maintain an E-ZPass account.

Henry Hudson Bridge Upper and Lower Level Roadway Rehabilitation

Starting October 20th, MTA Bridges and Tunnels will commence work to rehabilitate the upper and lower level roadways of the Henry Hudson Bridge. A signature part of this project will be the removal of columns and toll islands from the old toll plaza on the lower level roadway, which will improve traffic flow and allow for a smoother ride across the bridge.

Hugh L. Carey Tunnel Closed Sunday, Sept. 24 for the Annual Stephen Siller Tunnels to Towers Run

There will be a full closure of the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel on Sunday, September, 24 from 7:45 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. for the 16th annual Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run, commemorating the FDNY firefighter’s run through the tunnel to the World Trade Center on 9/11.

Event preparations will take place overnight, with one tube of the tunnel closed from 10 p.m. Saturday, September 23 through 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, September 24. One lane will remain open in each direction in the remaining tube during this time.

Marine Parkway Bridge Closed Overnight On Weekdays Sept. 25 – Oct. 25

The Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge will be closed to traffic in both directions during overnight hours on weekdays from Monday, September 25th through Wednesday morning, October 25th. There will be no closures on Yom Kippur and Columbus Day, as well as weekends. During this time, all traffic will be detoured to the Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., including the Q35 bus. The closures are necessary for upgrade work on the lift mechanism. Schedule is as follows:

Governor Cuomo Announces HOV/Bus Lane to Open Westbound on Verrazano-Narrows Bridge Reducing Travel Time and Improving Environment

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that on Tuesday, September 5, an HOV/Bus lane will open on the Upper Level westbound (Staten Island-bound) direction of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, completing a seamless route from Manhattan to Staten Island for users of the special lane, which reduces travel time and helps the environment.

MTA to Replace the Morris Street Pedestrian Overpass at the Hugh L Carey Tunnel

MTA Bridges and Tunnels is pleased to announce that the Morris Street Pedestrian Overpass, which stretches across the Hugh L. Carey Manhattan plaza, is being replaced by a new and improved bridge structure that will open to the public before the end of 2017.

Access to Bronx-bound Henry Hudson Bridge Closed Sunday Morning for NYC Triathlon

The northbound lanes of the Henry Hudson Parkway leading to the upper level Bronx-bound Henry Hudson Bridge will be closed Sunday, July 16, 2017, between 4 a.m. and noon for the biking portion of the NYC Triathlon. One southbound (to Manhattan) lane on the lower level of the bridge will remain open during this period.

Bicyclists will travel up the Henry Hudson Parkway from West 79th Street, cross the Henry Hudson Bridge, exit at Mosholu Parkway, make a U–turn at West Gun Hill Road and return southbound along the same route.

Governor Cuomo Announces Cashless Tolling Begins on Verrazano-Narrows Bridge

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced cashless tolling will begin on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge at 3 a.m. on July 8th. Implementing cashless tolling on the Verrazano Bridge will reduce congestion and improve travel for motorists in time for additional traffic anticipated due to Amtrak summer repair work. As part of the transition to a more convenient and cost effective way to travel New York’s crossings, the Governor is encouraging all commuters to sign up for an E-ZPass and save on tolls across the state, including 30 to 50 percent at bridges and tunnels in New York City.

Cedrick Fulton Appointed President of MTA Bridges and Tunnels

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced the appointment of Cedrick Fulton as the new President of MTA Bridges and Tunnels. Mr. Fulton will join the MTA on July 10 and will replace Tim Mulligan, who has been serving as Acting President.

In his most recent role, Mr. Fulton served as Director, Tunnels, Bridges & Terminals at Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, where he was responsible for managing all six Port Authority Bridges and Tunnels, as well as the Port Authority Bus Terminal and George Washington Bridge Bus Station.
