Metro-North Announces Positive Train Control Now Covers 90% of the Hudson Line

MTA Metro-North President Catherine Rinaldi today announced that Metro-North has extended Positive Train Control to cover almost 90% of the Hudson Line. All Hudson Line trains, including Amtrak and CSX, are now operating in Positive Train Control between Marble Hill and Poughkeepsie, a distance of 67 miles. Positive Train Control is a signal system safety enhancement that reduces the potential for human error to cause specific types of train collisions and derailments.

Metro-North’s West-of-Hudson Schedules to Change Sunday, Nov. 3

MTA Metro-North Railroad advises West of Hudson customers that minor schedule adjustments are taking effect on Sunday, Nov. 3. The schedule will remain in effect through Saturday, Dec. 7.

Port Jervis Line

As a result of cab-signal installation between Suffern and Port Jervis in support of Positive Train Control implementation, train departure times are being adjusted by up to four minutes. These adjustments will provide a more reliable schedule for customers.

New Tenant to Revitalize Croton-Harmon Station House

MTA Metro-North Railroad today announced that a new tenant will renovate and reinvigorate an underutilized 321-square foot space inside the former ticket office at the Croton-Harmon station. A health food retail business, Pure-DC, has assumed the license for the space and will sell a variety of juices, smoothies, acai bowls, energy bars and vegan pastries. The station currently has a coffee stand located within the overpass, that sells a variety of drinks, sandwiches and snacks, and Pure-DC will bring more dining options to hungry customers on the go.

Metro-North to Make Improvements to Danbury Branch Weekends of Oct. 26-27, and Nov. 2-3

Metro-North Railroad advises customers that over the next two consecutive weekends, Oct. 26-27, and Nov. 2-3, Metro-North crews will make improvements to the Danbury Branch.  Crews will install ties, surface track, weld rail joints and remediate mud spots. These branch upgrades are crucial to maintaining safe and reliable service.

To accommodate this maintenance to the Danbury Branch, buses will substitute for all trains both weekends.

Metro-North Railroad Continues ‘Connect With Us’ Customer Forums at Mount Kisco, South Norwalk and Grand Central Terminal

MTA Metro-North Railroad will bring its ‘Connect With Us’ customer forums to Mount Kisco Station, tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 16, South Norwalk Station on Tuesday, Nov. 19, and Grand Central Termial on Tuesday, Dec. 10. The railroad initiated the program in 2014, and for the fifth consecutive year, Metro-North hosts these forums at various locations across its service territory, fostering an open dialogue with customers about service and progress on major issues.

Metro-North Continues Replacement of Patterson Bridges on Upper Harlem Line Weekends of Oct. 12-13, and 19-20

MTA Metro-North Railroad advises customers that during the weekends of Oct. 12-13, and Oct. 19-20, crews will continue work on the first phase of the replacement of the Patterson bridges, located between Wassaic and Southeast on the Harlem Line, Both bridges are located in an area known as the “Great Swamp,” with no existing road adjacent to the track. Crews are also constructing a temporary access road into the site.  The road needs to be in place before the replacement work can begin.

Metro-North Crews Continue Infrastructure Improvements to Port Jervis Line Friday Night, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 27-29

MTA Metro-North Railroad advises customers that crews will be out this weekend, Sept.  27-29, continuing work replacing ties on the Moodna Viaduct, south of the Salisbury Mills station. The Moodna Viaduct has 2,300 individual bridge timbers and crews will continue work on this significant tie replacement project.

New Metro-North Harlem, Hudson and New Haven Schedules Take Effect on Sunday, Sept. 29, Bringing Service Improvements to Customers

MTA Metro-North Railroad today announced that new schedules will take effect on Sunday, Sept. 29, on the Harlem, Hudson, and New Haven lines.  Metro-North crews successfully completed a series of crucial improvements to the section of track between Mott Haven and Woodlawn on the Harlem Line in the Bronx.  With the work complete, and all four tracks now back in service, customers will see significant improvements in train frequencies and will have more travel options.

Your ticket to ride is now your ticket to shop and dine.  Metro-North Railroad has rolled out a new Rail Rewards program, which gives customers exclusive offers and discounts at Grand Central Terminal shops and restaurants. Most offers are valid through 2019. Metro-North’s Rail Rewards Program gives customers added value and savings to their train ticket.

Metro-North Crews to Make Safety Upgrades to Waterbury Branch From Friday, Evening Sept. 20, Through Sunday, Oct. 6

MTA Metro-North Railroad advises customers that beginning on Friday, Sept. 20, and continuing through Sunday, Oct. 6, crews will be doing prep work to install Positive Train Control (PTC) equipment on the Waterbury Branch.

PTC is a technology designed to reduce the potential for human error that can lead to train-involved accidents. Crews will begin installing a new signal system on the Waterbury Branch which needs to be in place in order to make PTC operational.
