MTA Metro-North Railroad Goes Green

MTA Metro-North Railroad received praise from environmentalists on Tuesday for switching to Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel fuel for its locomotives five years before federal regulations require.

The Federated Conservationists of Westchester County presented the railroad with its Green Seal Award at a ceremony at Croton Point Park on the Hudson River.

Grand Central Terminal's Exterior Restoration Project Wins New York Landmarks Conservancy Award

Metro-North Railroad has been recognized for excellence by the New York Landmarks Conservancy for its recently completed cleaning and restoration of Grand Central Terminal's limestone facade and iconic clock and statuary grouping.

The railroad received the Lucy G. Moses Award for its $27 million effort that kept the terminal under scaffolding and tarps for two years.

Metro-North's New Timetables Take Effect Monday, June 11th

To accommodate the installation of concrete ties this summer on the Upper Hudson and Outer New Haven lines, a new timetable will be issued on June 11th. Service adjustments will affect reverse-peak, off-peak and weekend service.

Hudson Line

During the reverse peak, off-peak and on weekends, Upper Hudson Line train schedules have been moved up to 19 minutes later, and trains will take an extra 3 to 5 minutes traveling along their route.

A commuter rail station at Yankee Stadium will soon become a reality, now that another New York team - MTA Metro-North Railroad and the City of New York - have come to agreement on how the new station will be paid for, operated and maintained.

Metro-North's Grand Central Terminal Fire Brigade Celebrates 20th Anniversary

Grand Central Terminal, a city within the city, with 68 shops and 35 places to eat and three-quarters of a million people passing through each day, also has its own volunteer fire department - the GCT Fire Brigade, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

The 19 brigade members are all certified firefighters and licensed Emergency Medical Technicians. They are also employees of MTA Metro-North Railroad and hold ordinary jobs such as plumber, machinist, electrician or custodian.

Track Work Set for the Waterbury Branch

For the next four weeks, Metro-North will be replacing wooden ties on the Waterbury branch of the New Haven Line. In order to install 8,000 new wooden rail ties on this single track line, substitute, off-peak bus service will be provided.

Beginning Monday, May 14, four off-peak trains will be bused, the 12:20 p.m. and 3:13 p.m. trains from Waterbury to Bridgeport, and the 10:32 a.m. and 1:32 p.m. trains from Bridgeport to Waterbury. About 140 customers will be affected each weekday.

MTA Metro-North Railroad Awards Contract for a Drive-through Car Wash

To keep its fleet shiny and bright, MTA Metro-North Railroad has begun construction of a new automatic train car washer at the Highbridge Car Appearance Facility in the Bronx

Using recycled water and cleaning solutions, the 300-foot-long building will house a series of spinning brushes and pressurized sprayers. The only part of the bath that uses clean water is the final rinse.

Train Schedules Change April 1st on Port Jervis and Pascack Valley Lines

New timetables for MTA Metro-North Railroad's Port Jervis and Pascack Valley Lines, effective April 1, 2007, will reduce running times on all trains to and from Port Jervis, and make changes to Pascack Valley Line service to improve reliability.

In addition, there are changes to Northeast Corridor service that affect Metro-North customers who transfer at Secaucus Junction.

Metro-North's Spring Schedule Brings Major Service Improvements on All Lines

MTA Metro-North Railroad is boosting service, adding early-bird inbound trains, new outbound express service on the Hudson and Harlem lines, increasing seat availability in both peaks, adding more midday and evening service on the New Haven Line and reducing some travel times effective Sunday, April 1, 2007.

Saint Patrick's Day Celebrants Get More Than Luck with Metro-North

This year, New York City's St. Patrick's Day Parade falls on a Saturday and Metro-North is adding service to carry as many as 20,000 parade goers as well as regular weekend customers.

There will be nine extra inbound trains the morning and four extra outbound train in the afternoon to accommodate the additional travelers.
