Long Island Rail Road Adding 10 Extra Trains for Early July 4th Weekend Getaway

The Long Island Rail Road has extra trains to start and end your July 4th holiday weekend. Starting Thursday, July 2 -- customers planning an early getaway will have afternoon train options from Penn Station. There will also be an extra Cannonball to Montauk on top of the Railroad’s already enhanced summer Montauk Branch schedule. 

Please note: Bikes are banned on trains for Thursday, July 2 and Friday, July 3.

Babylon Branch

  •  2:22 p.m. from Penn Station express to Rockville Centre, then all stops to Babylon
  •  2:32 p.m. from Penn Station express to Lynbrook, then all stops to Babylon
  •  3:00 p.m. from Penn Station stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre, all stops to Babylon
  •  3:31 p.m. from Penn Station express to Rockville Centre, then all stops to Babylon

Huntington/Port Jefferson Branch

  •  2:08 p.m. from Penn Station stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, then making all stops to Huntington.
  •  2:26 p.m. from Penn Station stopping at Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Jamaica, New Hyde Park, then making all stops to Huntington.
  •  3:24 p.m. from Penn Station stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, Westbury and Hicksville.

Ronkonkoma Branch

  •  1:40 p.m. from Penn Station stopping at Woodside, Jamaica, Mineola, Hicksville, then making all stops to Ronkonkoma.

Port Washington Branch

  •  3:40 p.m. from Penn Station stopping at Woodside, Flushing Main St., all stops to Great Neck.

Far Rockaway Branch

  •  3:48 PM from Penn Station stopping at Locust Manor, then making all stops to Far Rockaway

To the Hamptons and Montauk:

Wednesday, July 1: Regular summer weekday Montauk Branch service plus a train that usually runs on Thursdays, nicknamed the Baby Cannonball, which is an express train to Montauk departing Penn Station at 4:06 p.m. This train bypasses Jamaica and runs express to Westhampton, then stops at Southampton, Bridgehampton and East Hampton before terminating at Montauk. In addition, the usual 5:09 p.m. train to Speonk will be extended to Montauk, making all stops from Babylon to Montauk.

Thursday, July 2: : The Montauk Branch will operate on a regular summer Friday timetable, including the Cannonball, leaving Penn Station at 4:06 p.m., and a Montauk-bound train departing Jamaica at 7:38 p.m., with connecting trains departing Penn Station at 7:11 p.m. and Atlantic Terminal, Brooklyn, at 7:06 p.m. In addition, the usual 5:09 p.m. train from Penn Station to Speonk will be extended to Montauk, making all stops from Babylon to Montauk.

Friday, July 3: The Montauk Branch will operate on a regular summer Friday timetable, including the Cannonball, leaving Penn Station at 4:06 p.m., and a Montauk-bound train departing Jamaica at 7:38 p.m., with connecting trains departing Penn Station at 7:11 p.m. and Atlantic Terminal, Brooklyn, at 7:06 p.m. In addition, the usual 10:27 a.m. train from Babylon, with connecting trains departing from Penn Station at 9:22 a.m. and Atlantic Terminal, Brooklyn, at 9:05 a.m., will be extended to Montauk, making all stops from Babylon to Montauk. And the usual 5:09 p.m. train from Penn Station to Speonk will be extended to Montauk, making all stops from Babylon to Montauk.

Saturday, July 4 & Sunday, July 5: The LIRR is running on a regular weekend schedule with a westbound Cannonball departing Montauk on Sunday only at 6:37 p.m.

To Greenport & the North Fork

Thursday, July 2 and Friday, July 3: Regular weekday service plus the 3:55 p.m. train from Penn Station connecting at Ronkonkoma for the 5:21 p.m. eastbound train making all stops to Greenport.
