The Latest Subway Artwork Was Inspired by 'Missed Connections' Ads

Handmade Portraits: Sophie Blackall from Etsy on Vimeo.

Renowned illustrator Sophie Blackall who is well-known for her award-winning children's book illustrations, sought inspiration for a personal project and found it in Craigslist missed connection ads. And thus Blackall's most recent publication, "Missed Connections: Love, Lost & Found", was born. Many of those missed connections occurred on the New York City subway and in a perfect moment of synchronicity, MTA Arts for Transit commissioned Sophie to design one of their latest Art Cards – a prominent piece of subway art featured in most of the city's newest subway cars. Art Cards and Sophie's book are available for sale by visiting the New York Transit Museum stores or For those interested in finding their own "Missed Connections", the Transit Museum is hosting a love-in-transit party on February 14, 2012.
