Transit Museum Holiday Train Show

The New York Transit Museum's 11th Annual Holiday Train Show has arrived at Grand Central Terminal, just in time for the beginning of the 2012 holiday season. Housed in the Transit Museum's Gallery Annex, this year's layout will pay special tribute to Grand Central, as part of the events celebrating the terminal's upcoming 100th anniversary on February 1st, 2013.

The Holiday Train show is one of the Museum's most popular exhibits, and this year promises to be no different. Experts at Lionel toy-train manufacturing have created a new multi-track design that incorporates references to Grand Central and its 100-year history. "This year's layout is truly a grand design for a grand terminal," said Gabrielle Shubert, Director of the New York Transit Museum. "The designers at Lionel have done a fantastic job of bringing Grand Central Terminal to life in a way that all of our visitors, both young and old will learn from and marvel at," added Shubert.

As part of the new layout, model trains will travel from Grand Central Terminal, through New York City, traversing suburbs, farmlands and mountains. Many of the trains featured in this year's show will depict the actual train cars that passed through the Terminal during the past 100 years.

Accompanying this year's show is an exhibition of model trains from the Transit Museum's collection, and vintage New York Central train posters that give visitors a peek at railroading's glamorous past. Also featured will be Lionel's contribution to Grand Central's Centennial: the new Grand Central Express Passenger Set, a complete, ready-to-run, O-gauge electric train set that will be unveiled and on sale at the Transit Museum Store.

The 2012 Holiday Train Show will be on display until February 10th, 2013.

The New York Transit Museum Gallery Annex and Store at Grand Central Terminal, adjacent to the Stationmaster's office, is open Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free.
